Yes. That's the recommended daily intake for most people (as a minimum). 1,200-1,500 for pregnant women, women after menopause, and people in puberty. :)

Yes, it is safe to consume 1 gram of calcium per day but you should also recognize that you may not need it.

Calcium as well as all other minerals have antagonists and co-factor agents that can limit or increase their bioavailability in your body. Let's assume for a moment that you do not have an adequate amount of magnesium in your body (an antagonist of calcium). Without a proper ratio between the two the calcium you take wouldn't be used and calculus formation could occur. Calculus is the depositing of trace amounts of minerals in soft tissues (arteries, veins, joints, etc.).

So, here's my suggestion. Always ask 'why' you should take something before you start taking it and KNOW that the answer given is logical. Secondly, don't go against the advice of your doctor but DO be willing to question him or her. Finally, if you want to know what the ratio between your minerals are so that you have an idea what kind of nutrients your body needs and will respond to, consider having a hair analysis. You can read more about hair analysis on my site.

Yes, perfectly normal. Women usually need more than that, especially if they're menopausal. If you have a tendency to have kidney stones though, you need to cut down on calcium and tea. I just learned that the tea and calcium combination can cause kidney stones in people.
