I spent 2 months traveling threw Europe. I flew into Athens Greece and out of Madrid Spain. I went to many many countries but my favorite places were Corfu Greece, the Amalfi Coast in Italy, and this really small town north of London by Balsover Castle, Dublin Ireland. I met some many awesome people and saw such interesting things. I saw the place where Ann Franks family hid during WWII, Pompeii, Acropolis, Disneyland Paris, this cool castle in Austria, I stayed in this 13 century monastery, oh and we must not forget the hookers in Madrid Spain. They were so funny they attack your car some naked some dress.

When I visited the United Arab Emirates as a professor I was to stay and teach for 3 years. The trip got cut short due to illness but this trip stands out.

It was the most different and exotic place I had ever been right up there with Thailand and Turkey but because I was going to live there and stay there I had the chance to integrate myself in the culture more.

The superficial things like what you see, taste, smell, here and feel are different. Just imagine 50 celsius in August - it is a sickly heat that envelops you like falling into a bowl of boiling pea soup. In fact I was afraid of this heat at first. I thought I culd not breathe.

Then everyone dresses very differently and it is very conservative in Al Ain - the city where I lived and taught.

There are mosques everywhere and prayer 5 times a day so you hear the minorets going off 5 times a day and the singing of the priest calling everyone to prayer.Early in the morning is at first hard to get used too.

Women who follow tradition are covered and live apart almost from men in a way in public.

Dubai was very open though and on the beaches women were in bikini's and so the UAE is reall the most open country in the middle east.

My students all wore robes and head adornments and sandals. They were very nice and polite to me. The people were so very relaxed I could not understand. But they were very sweet to me.

I could go on but alas I don't know where I would stop. It was a real "trip" I even had to have a license from the police to buy alcohol!

I've been fortunate and had many. My happiest times are when we fly into England, rent a car and then just kind of meander around the back roads with a few destinations decided on and a lot of serendipity on the way. The best was when we got upgraded to an alfa romeo and found a henge (like Stonehenge only not so grand), a town which makes wonderful tarts, a village with a plague story that sent chills up and down my spine, rode a canal boat, visited old friends, and wound up staying in a hotel room that had once been a pub room where Wililiam Thackeray (Vanity Fair author) had once hung out.
Running around England is like that. And everytime we go find new (old) things--some by design and some by chance.

Although I love the Caribbean, one of my best trips was to Greenland and the Canadian Arctic. I got to see polar bears in the wild, the Northern Lights, and so many other amazing things. It was like being transported to another planet!

oahu, hawaii:

perfect 85 degrees all week
sunny
sea breezes that never allow the temp to be scorching
tank top, shorts, and flip flops 24/7
or just barefoot with a sarong
most beautiful scenery outside of waikiki
clearest water that's not too cold
soft squishy sand
flaming torches lit every 6pm
constant island music pouring from every corner
or just listen to the waves crashing
