I was brought up in the Christian faith, I became a Christian myself when I was about 14 years old. I was very involved in the church, I set up a Christian union at my school, and I went on mission to South America when I was 18.

Over the past 2 years I've suffered severe depression and self harm. I'm getting treatment for it, and things are getting better, but I just don't believe that God loves me anymore.

I don't see why God would love me, I feel like I'm not good enough for him. I feel like a terrible person and I don't understand how he could love me like this.

A lot of times it's wrong Christian theology that makes people feel this way. You cannot earn your way with God, He loved you before He even made you, it doesn't have a thing to do with what you've done. He loved you so much He sent His Son to take your punishment in His place. After becoming a Christian, God wants you to serve Him out of Love. Jesus said "If you love me, you obey my commandments". Not, if you want to get into heaven, if you want to look good, if you feel like it, if you're scared. It's not a point scale, it's not about earning your way there or being perfect. Looking at your own failures will paralyze you and make you ineffective. Would you dare to say to God that His Son's death wasn't good enough to cover you? Of course not. Take your eyes off of your failures and do a good study on Jesus and the Cross. That's the proof of God's love for you. Every Christian goes through times where they cannot "feel" God's love so go back to the beginning and read about all of His promises all over again. Eventually the feeling will come back.

You just have to have faith that you can get through this troubled time in your life. Even though it may not seem like God is with you now he's always been with you. No matter who you are and what you have done you are one of God's children and he will never abandon you or stop loving you. I'm not very religious myself but i do have a strong faith in God's love and trust that little inner voice i hear every now and then. It's like a whisper in the silence of your soul that is only between you and God. Trust that He is there and loves you deeply. My prayers are with you and good Luck w/ your treatment.

Hi there! The first thing you need to do is step away from beliefs you might have held as a Christian ... all these beliefs that humans are not worth God's love, that we are all sinners and basically bad people, has absolutely no root in reality. Why would God not love us? All God is is love ... he is a part of us and we are a part of him. The common thread connecting us all is love. There is nothing about you, or anyone else, that is lacking. We are the way God meant us to be.

There is not one person on this earth that God will ever turn away from. A lot of depressed people in this world do not feel like they are worthy enough for God. The amazing thing about God is that when you do horrible things, you can ask for forgiveness and God will forgive you. However as God forgives you, it seems like you cannot truly forgive yourself. God always loves you, even if we do not express it back.

Do you pray to God and Say please help me get better? That's what I would do . Ever since my cousin and My birth-mom passed away recently. I've been believing in God. I think i have two angels looking down on me. They are my cousin because she was only 3 months old when she passed away and My birth mom was only 38 when she passed away and she has 3 kids she left behind . I ask god "Why did she have to go"? I think about her all the time . I only met her once out of my whole life besides when I was like 3 or something but, I don't remember that.
well, thank you

You are correct in one way. God couldn't love you any more. Also God couldn't love you any less. God's love is more than we as mere humans can understand. We may say something to one of our friends and they may get mad and say they don't love us anymore. That is human. God will never, no matter what you do or say, stop loving you. He will never forsake you. That is devine. That is Agape love, the only kind that God knows. He will love you unconditionally. Read Romans 8:28-38. That is my favorite passage when I am feeling depressed.

Hope this helps. Jesus loves you and doesn't think you are terrible at all. Trust in Him and leave your problems at the cross and He will take care of them. Once you leave them there, never think of them again. Always look forward.

thats what the devil wants you to think, we all are not good enough for God, but the devilget you think that you cant even go to God because you feel you are not worthy at all, God loves you and He will never leave you nor forsake. Stop letting the devil have control over your mind and talk to God. God is better than us and more forgiving than we are, He'll always be there for you and He was always there for you but you forgot that Go back to God

You see those are the depressing feelings that religion puts in peoples heads, I had it all my life and now when I'm old I see the way religion robbed me of a good life. Get away from it, open up to real life real thinking, just be a good person. Believe me your life will be much more secure feeling and content with out it.

If you are waiting to feel worthy of God's love, you will be waiting a long time. None of us will ever be worthy of His love, mercy or forgiveness. That's why God is so cool. He over looks our downfalls and human nature and loves us any way. God created you how could He not love you. Don't dwell on what you've done but what Jesus did for you. It is only through His blood that things will ever be o.k.

The Father, Son and The Holy ghost will ALWAYS love you and never forsake you sweetie. Through your life that you have given to God there will be trials and tribulations. Some of these set on by the devil and some set by God himself. Depression is one of those trials. Whether or not your depression was given to you by God or the devil I don't know but I do know that God will be the one to take it away and heal you. PLEASE don't get me wrong and assume that God wants us to hurt, he doesn't. It's just that God needs to know that he has strong followers that will remain faithful to him. Therefore he puts things on us to test our faith IN HIM. God needs to see, will you stay and ask him for his help and ask him to still walk beside you, or carry you in your time of need, or will you forsake him and blame him and abandon him when the going gets tough? That decision is up to you but I know the choice that God himself wants you to make. At these times is when you can also see all of God's glory and work as well, ask him to move in your life and remove you from underneath the cloud of depression. Tell him say God, I don't know how it got to me but I KNOW that you are the only one that can take it away, but believe with all of your heart that he can and will when you say this. Tell him in Jesus's name I have not forsaken you or abandoned you, stay by my side Lord, and he will. God only leaves people that do not want his help and do not accept him. The Lord said that he would never put more on us than we can bear, if it is a test of faith and you remain faithful sweetie he will intervine and lift your spirit up again. If it is the devils work than also believe that Jesus will not let him win over him and hold down a child of God. The Lord called you for that missionary once and maybe that is what he is calling for now, maybe he is trying to tell you doing that is where you will feel the happiest. Ask him, tell him in the name of Jesus.....use me Lord as you need to, to witness, spread his name, help lift others that are depressed....he's calling you for some work let him guide you, but most of all remember HE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU. I will pray for you now in Jesus's name, Amen........... by the way I am not what you call a HOLY ROLLER so don't mistaken me for a nut, I am just a child of God helping another, Jesus guided my words here.....Bless you
