boyfriend and driving, parents have problem with it?

my bf and i are 24. My boyfriend has a crappy car and it breaks down a lot, also he dosn't have much money right now for gas. I end up driving more than he does, i don't care about the driving at all. The problem is my parents have a huge issue over this. Everytime they scream and yell at me about him never picking me up. He lives 10 mins from me, but i just feel its not a big deal that i do the driving. They had a problem with this with my ex too. I would end up doing most of the driving. I just wish they would leave me alone about it. Its really ridiculous! They make a HUGE deal about this driving thing because they are old fashioned and want the guy to pick up the girl all the time, but im not living in that generation. Most of my female friends do at least half the driving with their boyfriends...

There might be more to this than the driving. If your b/f can't make enough money to have a decent can and can't manage his finances to keep the tank full, your parent's might see him as someone with issues. He shouldn't be spending money going out if he doesn't have the cash for gas. There are plenty of things that are free. There is also the balance issue. Each partner needs to contribute their share to the relationship; one partner shouldn't make up for the shortcomings of the other or you end up in the parent/child relationship. In sum, look beyond the surface issue.

What i feel is that the problem is anything else and not just this driving thing. you said they had problem with your ex-boy friend .may be they think these guys will break your heart.i think they really care for you.
