Israel has ships, jets, nuclear weapons, tanks, etc. How did such a small country get all those weapons? Are they a rich country? Did the US give those to them because they represent a democracy?

Yes we give them aid, But Israel Buys those weapons planes and ships. Here in St Louis we have a Boeing plant, Israel and many other countries buy F18s from that Boeing plant, Not only does it help the Israelis, but it also keeps Americans working at good paying jobs.
one other question you may want to ask, is where does Hezbollah get its weapons from? answer....Iran. the missile that Hezbollah fired at the Israeli ship, and killed 4 sailors, was a Chinese designed missile, and built in Iran.

Actually, Israel owns somewhere around 90% of the worlds diamond mines, most of them found in Africa. They are an extremely rich country.
On top of that, they have one of the best militarys in the world. All adults, male and female, upon gradutating from high school, automatically enlist in the military for, I believe, three years. After this is up, they may transfer to the reserves or remain on active duty.
So, as you can, nearly every citizen of Israel is in their military in some form.
And no, the United States did not give them their weapons, they bought/made them, themselves.

the whole thing started in the fifties when Israel was attacked by the arabs and the US said they wont give then weapons, then the russian who were looking to escalate the conflict gave then weapons, then the us realed they were wring and decided to start arming the israelis agains the arabs, the eventually the israelis being the well developed nation they are started to produce their own high tech weaponry.

The arab nations wanting to wipe Israel off the map also got their weapons from the US, we supplied them during their war against the Soviet Union. Irony

The United States. We have supported Israel since it's creation by the UN after WWII. Israel has had to fight against it's neighbors since that time in order to survive.
