care more about money, oil, and power than human lives?
If not, then why do people allow the government to convince them that what is going on in the middle east has to do with religion?
Why do people allow the government to abuse their religion in that manner, and why can't people see the truth? That people are dying for money, power and control?
Jesus stood up to the Jewish clerics of his time because they were using religion for monetary gain. The same thing is happening today...and it's really sad that people who claim to be christians did not learn a thing from Jesus. He's probably very disappointed right now.

frogprincess....your allowing the government to convince you that God is doing this. Would Jesus do such a thing? You're placing your faith in man - not Jesus....that's the point I'm trying to make.
Thanks for your answer. :)

Either we are too ignorant or too indifferent to recognize the truth. This war is not about religion, but about money and power. There are many who do not accept the values that our American culture imposes on the rest of the world - but if they do not have resources that are valueable to us we will not strike out against them, for there is no monetary gain. What price will we pay for spilling the blood of innocents? In the end God will be the judge of who is right and what is wrong.

God does not need money or oil and he is the most powerful thing that will ever be. As for how we or anyone can truly do anything about any government is not possible. You must keep in mind we that believe are not Jesus we are just people. we do what we can but there is a lot of evil and it just takes time to get very little done. Is it fair of you to blame the Christians because of the conflicts of men. We are not given magical powers to control anything or anyone. In fact we can not make anyone do anything they do not wish to do because all humans have free will.
Christians do a lot even if you can not see it and to hate them for not standing up to what you think they should be doing is as wrong as Christians hating you because your not doing anything either. This world will not correct itself and unless all of us from all walks of life learn to ban together then we are all doomed.

I'm always amazed that I live in a world where so many try to paint the world in one or two colors and then blame everyone else for never using THEIR colors. Kind of silly. Reality is more complex.
Money? Yes. Amazing how many of us filthy capitalists there are. Amazing how the socialists have failed with almost every experiment (some are still struggling along, but it's a 90% failure rate so far compared to a surprisingly high success rate for capitalism). Must be those mean capitalists who keep trying to encourage democracy and republics.
Oil? Well, I should hope so! Oh, that's right! You want us to handicap ourselves to be fair to every other nation. Kind of like putting extra weights on any Olympic star who does too well. No nation should look after it's own interests! That's when we get to use "selfish" and "greedy' to make them feel guilty, right!
What nonsense!
Power? Do I really need to go into this one? Every enemy of every person or group has used against their opponents since the dawn of time. "HOW DARE they get power! How dare they get more power than ...me... .
Sorry. We like our country, we like our power, we use it pretty well, and wisely, and with free speech as treasured as we have it, justly.
Actually, Jesus was a claiment to the line of priest-kings of Israel. He'd likely be out there fighting with Israel.
Remember, his followers carried swords and the Messiah was said to be the one who would overthrow the oppressors of Israel. Looks like Islam has the new title of "Oppressor".

I agree with your basic point - that this is about power, not religion. Dictators, terrorists and power seekers are using religion to oppress people and convince their followers that the US is an evil Satan. Or maybe THE evil Satan. Israel is evil too, since it is our key ally in the region.
I don't think the US is in the region for religious reasons. We are there because the middle east is key to the world economy. As China industrializes its appetite for energy is growing exponentially. Oil is a key source of energy these days and the lives of billions of people depend on it. He who controls the oil controls the power. I think the facts support my theory that the US did not invade Iraq to get its oil. We went in to Iraq to bring peace and stability to that vital country. Otherwise, we would have simply seized the oil fields and we would be purging Iraq now to eliminate any potential threat ... whiich is how Saddam stayed in power. Instead, we take casualties and spend billions to give Iraq an opportunity to seize democracy.
I whole-heartedly disagree with Christians who see the middle east as the unfolding of Biblical prophecy. Revelation, Daniel and other passages in scripture were not written to give us - the 21st century readers - some vague idea about how the world is going to end. Those who say we should be in the middle east to do the work of Jesus Christ that is prophesized in the Bible are free to think that. Fortunately, the US foreign policy is not phoned in by Pat Robertson. If there was no economic or political interest of the US at stake, we would not be there. To wit, we are not invading Sudan to stop the horrible civil war there. They don't have any energy reserves that are needed in the world economy.
As much as Jesus hates the wars of this world, he said to his disciples that there would always be wars and rumors of wars. And that starting a war to overthrow the Romans wasn't the purpose of his kingdom. Have you ever wondered why Christ didn't just heal all of the sick? Or feed all of the hungry? He certainly had the power. Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, telling him that he should use his Godly power to fix all of the evils of the world. For reasons I don't totally understand, Christ refused that opportunity.
I don't see how Jesus wants us to step up and set up a Jewish state and rebuild the temple for some apocalyptic purpose. We as a country support Israel because it is a democratic society that is stable and reliable in a region that is vital to the world economy. We support Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and many other moslem regimes for the same reason. Ain't got nuthin' to do with fulfilling (alleged) Bibilcal prophecy.

No he doesn't.
Man cares about money, oil, greed, power, etc.
Society has become more of a "get what you can" attitude.
You know, whoever dies with the most toys wins.
Yes Jesus stood against the clerics for trading in the synagogue, but they also crucified Him.
Is the same thing happening today?

I think you make several excellent points. However, consider the expression "An old man's fight a young man's war". Religion is one of the many ways that leaders motivate young men to die for political reasons. Waving the flag is another. Seeking revenge against people who are not to blame (Iraq and 9/11) is a third. There is never - never a good reason for war.

Satan is very powerful in the minds of man, and unfortunatly many in Washington are weak, this is why it is good that George Bush is a good Christian and is in the seat of power. We need God in the White House to help our country and the world.

No Zar,
The God to whom I would pray wouldn't abandon the world to any of this.
I’m afraid I share your feelings for those in power, both political and religious.
Unfortunately fighting against these people is dangerous. Look what has happened to the people in history that have done the right thing. Jesus for starters. So, I guess it’s no wonder that most of us go along with the program. (one of the better questions, thanks)

My God cares nothing of materialistic things.
Other people let themselves be convinced that the things they do are encouraged by their Gods, because they are gullable.
Hezbollah - it means God's army - but it all exists purely within the minds of men. The same as any religion.
