I think it's wrong for a kid to have a phone. Who do they really need to call? Somehow we all made it through childhood with out the music, pic and txt all the time......

Do not get her a mobile phone! Six years old is way too young for a mobile phone. If she is not going to do anything but text, why would you pay seventy dollars a month if she could just use email. Phones are useful when your kids get into highschool, but first grade is way too much. Also, radiowaves are admitted from cell phones when you make calls. This does not really affect the adult brain , but it would affect a small childs. It is suggested that kids under twelve not use them.

If all she wants it for is the pictures and music, there are other options. Talk to her about maybe getting a PSP instead of a Nintendo DS. These can hold pictures and music. In adition they work as a DVD player and a game player. i believe it costs you a little more than a DS, but it will be a better deal than a cell phone. Did I mention you could also get an internet connection on these things!

I wouldn't give my son a mobile phone, even those he's very mature for his age. But if you're going to get one, they have some now that are made especially for children. They make it so the kid can only call (and receive calls from) the numbers that the parents program in. I think this would be great for your situation, if you decide to do it. Good luck.

Guess what get her the DS and the FIREFLY fireflymobile.com it is a great mobile for kids and comes in colors and 911 speed dial a phone book parents control and more and the best part is it is only 100.00 bucks and so your grand total with the ds is 280.00

I think mobile phones in a child this young, are a waste of money. The novelty soon wears off. They are always with you - it's not like my 11 year old who's just phoned me to tell me where she is. She inherited her brother's phone when she was 9 and I have to say, she never used it. It was always flat or she'd used all the credit etc etc. A total waste of money!

I gave my oldest son a mobile phone on pay as you go at age 9. He tends to spend time over at his friends so my main reason for getting him a phone is for safety and security. I keep his top-up card with me and I keep track of how often he asked for top-up, which isn't often. If you can justify why she needs as phone at such young age, why not. Don't forget peer pressure!

Well, I wouldn't give a cell to a girl of 6. The media has sold to kids all kind of stuff to make their parents buy them a cellular phone, when a cellular phone should be a tool of communication. For me it is just a trap. Kids do not pay bills but parents. If you want my opinion, sometimes parents should say no and teach children not to be just victims of media and marketing.

I think 6 is way too young for a phone. My daughter is 12, and I'm thinking about getting her a phone. I'd wait a bit.

In my opinion, WAY TO YOUNG.... A cell phone is for adults. I had to grow up fast and I don't want my daughter to have to do the same. Kids should be kids.

I would wait until highschool

It's against the law for anyone under the age of seven to have a mobile phone, and I wouldn't recommend letting her have one until she gets to secondary school (unless she lives far away from her primary school).
