Ok so about 3 years ago I dated this amazing guy. we broke up about a year and a half ago, and it was really hard for us, because i dont think it was ever really over. so then a few months ago i met this guy that is really great, but i really dont have feelings for him the way he does for me. we aren't actually dating though, if you know what i mean. so now my former boyfriend and I are becoming very close again, and i want things to work between us. how do i gently explain to my other guy friend (who i am not dating) my situation and that i do not want to further our relationship past the "friends" stage?

I'd tell him just like you told us. You are becoming close to your ex again and want it to work out. There's nothing shameful in that as long as you're honest with your friend right away. Don't lead him on at all, cause that would be hurtful. Good luck and congrats on re-sparking that ole flame.

Duhh....just tell the guy your renewing your relationship with your old boyfriend. No biggie. He might be relieved. If it doesn't work out, get back in touch with the new guy. Move on, sista!

Guys don't take hints. You have to do the right thing and tell him clearly you don't want to pursue a relationship with him.

Just don't talk to him or pay much attention. Do it long enough, he shoud be gone, or just tell him
