Hello.. :o) Well thank goodness there are some balanced healthy minded people out there to dilute some of the sadly very ignorant, shallow opinions written above. I have red hair, a deeper auburn red, dark brown brows and lashes and lots of freckles which I love and I have always been complimented by many people on the beautiful colour of my hair. There were always the weak minded cowards at school and even when you’re older who bully and shout vicious or offensive things at you for having red hair... but they only embarrassed themselves. I always considered having red hair as a special gift, it was unusual and bold and my boyfriends when I was younger and now my husband thinks it is stunningly beautiful and really loves my sandy coloured freckles which give my skin a natural glow. I have to agree with many other people on this planet and confess that I have always found freckles on all people to be especially attractive. And of course it doesn’t really need saying but, contrary to someone’s remark above freckles are never ‘bright orange’. I also receive a lot of lovely compliments about how wonderful and soft and radiant and young my skin is, (I’m in my early thirties) because it is not ruined by sun damage, sunbed treatments etc...and I find that many natural beauties who are strong enough, know that there are a great many people who do not find the overworked super-tanned hollywood appearance attractive at all. In fact I’ve met a lot of men and women who find it a turn off. It loses all natural charm and authentic beauty. I am lovingly proud of my celtic ancestry and snowy skin...I think it’s lovely.

There have been a few male friends we’ve known too, who are the kind of red heads with very pale eyebrows and eyelashes and some women find it irresistible. Who you *are* and how you act is what makes you a handsome person. *Handsome is as handsome does* as one friend's grandmother once advised him. Internal beauty and having intelligence of the heart radiates through to the outside and those around you will feel it.

Some men like women with black hair, some women like men with blonde hair, a little girl I knew where I used to live has albino colouring ~ her hair and brows, lashes etc are totally white and her skin very pinkish white and pale, like her eyes...and when you look at her you are completely taken aback at how beautiful she is. ..and so on...if someone is a fantastic soul what does the colour of our skin, our hair, matter?!.. as long as we feel comfortable and happy in it... if others on this planet have enough intelligence of heart and mind to see *who* people actually are as a person as a spirit... then it would not even be an issue. It’s truly quite silly! :o)

As for the person call *resortcaroline* ...I feel a bit sorry for this person as they seem not to realise that they are being as ignorant, unfair and bigoted as the bully they so disliked at school. Bullying is a horrible thing, I was severely bullied at school also for various different reasons and those bullies had brown hair, mousy hair, blonde hair and even a red haired person but you grow and become stronger from it...knowing that there were deeper problems behind why those children behaved that way, that had nothing to do with you... you just became a target because you were different in some way. It’s extremely sad that this person still dislikes red haired people because of one troubled child who bullied them, as they themselves wrote:

” I have always had a strong dislike of those who sport bright orange hair, whiter than white skin, covered in freckles, orange freckles. These people come from another planet, it's been proved that they don't have the same genetics as humans. I would like to learn to like them, but orange hair and freckles????????????????????? ”

Well...what can you say...! Wow... ‘another planet’!.. not ‘the same genetics as humans’ !.. quite a lofty claim!! Heehee... :o) perhaps that’s not such a bad thing... I’m sure there are more highly developed and wiser planets and civilisations than this one out there somewhere...so we should take it as a compliment I think. ... It made us laugh, but seriously felt quite sad for this person who openly (but probably unwittingly) displayed such unaddressed personal/emotional issues. No matter how may people you believe you have *helped* in your life, if you haven’t looked at yourself honestly and dealt with your own impoverished attitudes in your own psyche then the rest means very little... (if you remain a person who is capable of writing such statements as those above!) ...helping yourself with your own internal problems however hard it may be to face them, or however long you’ve hidden away from them, would be a much better gift to the world.
By writing what they did they showed themselves to be as mean-spirited or maybe just as *troubled* as their childhood bully...if not more so as I am assuming that this person is a grown adult, and it’s a shame they’re not more responsible. That person’s comments and some of the other tremendously silly ones just show what we all know already, that sadly there are still an awful lot of small-minded folks out there of not very much depth or awareness! But NEVERMIND!...there are plenty more aware and wise souls to balance it out... and people of every conceivable hair colour...with freckles, without freckles, with liver spots, scarred skin, moles, birthmarks, every skin colour under the sun... in this rich and wonderfully varied tapestry of humankind.

Anyone at all, who ‘shuns’ or penalizes another being because of a particular hair colour, skin colour, body type, faith, nationality etc , is simply embarrassing themselves by showing their misguided foolishness. It’s obviously best not to pay any heed to such people... until they learn better. Let’s hope for their own sakes and ours too that they all wake up a bit.

Love and courage to you all. x

The word barbarian is derived from the Latin word 'barbaricus' meaning foreign, outlandish, or strange. They specifically referred to the Nordic tribes (who happened to have ginger hair) as 'barbaric', because they were enemies. Therefore, ginger people are shunned because other people find them barbaric (strange).

However, I find the shunning of ginger people discriminative and shallow, so I don't agree.

Are you sure yours is not the issue? There may be a few jokes but being shunned? Think you may be a little self concious/insecure. I love ginger!

Are they? I am Ginger, a ginge, a ging, whatever you want to call it. I personally don't give a flying f*** what people say. I am 30 with good job and a beautiful blonde haired, blue eyed wife so hair colour means absolutly jack! Hope this helps :)

probably because there are a lot of shallow people about who are too busy looking for film star looks only that they miss genuine lovely people?
Interestingly, did you know that from a genetic point of view, ginger headed people are in danger of disappearing altogether, it's all to do with dominant genes that control colour of hair and eyes etc., perhaps someone more intelligent than I can explain!

They are NOT! That is total rubbish! Ginger haired people sometimes have a lot of freckles and many people do not like freckles - personally, I find them attractive.

My school bully was ginger and covered in orange freckles, he was big and hideous and I was small and frightened. He attacked me in my dorm one night, my bed rail broke his leg, I did help that a little, I broke his teeth as he reeled in pain. I became the smallest school hero. I have always had a strong dislike of those who sport bright orange hair, whiter than white skin, covered in freckles, orange freckles. These people come from another planet, it's been proved that they don't have the same genetics as humans. I would like to learn to like them, but orange hair and freckles?????????????????????
