I don't know of any immediate cure, but the less you fool with it, lick it or rub it, it doesn't get as big.
And someone told me about this..... I didn't think it would work, but damn if it doesn't. You have to do it when you home...because you look stupid, but it really works, drys up the cold sore, and even prevents it if you get to it early enough. You mix instant coffee with water, to form a thick paste, and dab it on the cold sore, and let it dry. Keep doing that for most of the day, and it dry's out the blisters and makes it go away a lot faster!!! If you apply it as soon as you feel the burn/itch, before the sore fully appears, it woun't go full blown, and might not even appear!!! I've done it time after time, and it's just wonderful!!! and fast

There are no immediate cures.. abbreva or zovirax work really well on coldsores and make them dissapear in a few days.
Your immune system is low if you have a coldsore, you might want to think about taking some zinc and vitamine c supplement.

There is no way to cure a coldsore immediately, unless you cut it off, but I really recommend that you do not take this drastic course of action.

Please do not follow the advice from Irish angel, that is the sure fire way to spread it all around your face. There is no quick cure. Herpes zoster or cold sores are caused by the reactivation of the dormant chicken pox virus. Usually when you have had too much sun, or cold or stress. Zovirax is the best treatment, rest and a good diet.
Please do not burst the blisters, cold sores do not scar but if you stick a needle in the blisters they will!!

Abreva works well.
Have you tried using sunscreen to prevent them? My Dr. told me to try it, and I found a chap-stik type lip balm that I use every day, and a couple times a day if I'm going to the beach or especially if I feel a fever coming on. Heat is a big trigger!!!!!!
It works for me. I haven't felt the lip "tingle" in a long time .

This hurts really bad but it works, take a needle and break the blisters open, but keep a napkin handy so it doesn't spread. then, put alchohol on the open sores. It stings and burns but the next day, they'll be gone

Use the regular Arrid X-tra Dry deodorant. There's something in it that clears it up within 24 hours...its a miracle. My stylist told me about it, and my niece used it - and it works!

The best thing on the market I know of is Neosporin LT...not only does it heal but it also soothes, which is a real bonus.
