if you have to work then you have to work. If you have to put the baby in day care or pay a baby sitter then so be it. Not all people have enough money to not work. I know it sucks but if you cant survive not working then your gonna have to do it. i also believe that single parents deserve a fair amount of child support i know so many people who are getting ripped off on child support. Not only should the other parent have to pay money i think they should have to pay more money simply becuase they get off so easy not having to take care of the child and putting all the stress on the single parent. I think those things are so terrible. I espcially think men who let their girlfriends while they were pregnant, or didnt step up and take responiblity when they found out they had a child on the way shoudl have to pay extra for being scum bags.

Single parents don't have a lot of choice here. The best advice is to get a night job while the child is sleeping, but also to try to get your parents or other family member to let you with them. That way, while you are working, you are sure that your child is being taken proper care of, as well as safe. It doesn't stop when they become school aged though. You need to be able to take full charge of your responsibility as a parent. As a single parent, it is harder on you because the father(usually) isn't in the picture, so you have to fill both rolls. It really is important that you are there for your child, and daycares are not the answer. Children are harmed by other children at times, and the adults are not as loving to your child as you are. Also the unfortunate thing that happens sometimes is that the daycare isn't staffed adequately and your child can be neglected as well as the discipline that they decide to use is not really known to you. Worst of all, sometimes someone gets a job at a daycare, and that person is a child pr editor, and your child can be molested or even worse. Please take the time, and make the sacrifices for your child and his/her safety. Find a way to be a stay at home Mom. Don't get caught up in the materialistic world and think that you are only successful for you child if you can give them materialistic things in life. Your Love is more important to your child than anything else!

Well, I think that ideally they would be able to get support from the government to allow them to take care of their children until school starts. An alternative would be a co-op setting where single parents would share child rearing responsibilities, as well as work responsibilities, including cooking and cleaning, in addition to some money making duties. However, neither of these is very attractive to some people, so they have to make the best of it while working.

Wel unfortuatly it is not always about what is right... it is about what is required in order to provide for the child. Sometimes the parent HAS to work and in that case it is allright. But I think that we should avoid having other people raise our kids for us as much as possible, so I recommend working a late night shift somewhere after you put the kids to bed. Or another type of shift that allows you to be there for the kids during the day. When I was a single mom I had no choice but to work, but I worked at a daycare center and I took her with me (they gave me a discount)...maybe you could try something like that

Absolutely I think it's okay. If you are a single parent you need to set a good example. You need to show your child that it's important to work hard. If you are a single parent are you supposed to go on welfare? why should tax payers support you and your child. I'm a single parent and I work very hard to support my child, 2 jobs and trying to put myself through school. I am fortunate enough to have my dad to help me. But I want my daughter to understand what it is to work hard and struggle to get yourself to a place that you can appreciate what you've accomplished.

It's about what kind of parent they are. Not whether they work or not. Most single parents have no choice, but to work.

How else are they suppose to financially take care of their kids if they do not work? You dont want them to be on welfare and have the hard working people take care of them....Do you??!! They want to have kids and be single...then they need to work to support their children...So Yes they need to work. If they did it the right way and waited until they were married to have kids then or if they had a responsible man to take care of them, they wouldn't have to work..IMO

If they are single, what choice do they have? Yet another reason not to have sex till you are married, and to make sure you both are committed to staying together.
