The religious do it as much to glorify themselves as to glorify "god".
Remember Quincy Carter and his Donna Summer moment?
"[I give] credit to God for giving me the innate ability to perform."
From the link:
> It's kind of funny, but in Week 1 of the NFL season, against
> the expansion Houston Texans, Carter had the worst performance
> of his short career. Balls were bouncing at the feet of receivers
> and there were no touchdown passes, miraculous or not. And in
> the locker room after the game, God was never mentioned.
And, of course, Carter is now out of football after his drug use. (See the second link.) Oh, and let's not forget Eugene Robinson (see the third link) or Reggie White's racist diatribe. Dishonesty and unethical behaviour are very common amongst the fervently religious (see the fourth link).
> On the morning before the Super Bowl, he was awarded the
> Bart Starr Award for his "high moral character". However, that
> very night he was arrested for offering a female undercover
> police officer posing as a prostitute $40 for oral sex.
I would have loved it if an opposing player had said after beating St. Louis when Kurt Wanker - oops, Warner - was playing there, "I'm sure glad we beat 'satan's team. 'god' was obviously on our side."

Blame? if I enter a contest, it's not Jesus competing, it's me. Sure one will ask God/Jesus for assistance, but in any contest someone will win and someone will lose. God/Jesus doesn't take sides. If you lose you should thank the Almighty for your ability, then it's up to you to get better so you don't lose next time.

Because god either helps you, or he doesn't think you deserve it as much as the other athlete next to you. You can't blame someone for not helping you. Obviously, you've done something wrong in order not to be helped by the hand of god.

Because Jesus/God should be thanked when you lose too. There is a reason for it. Losing now will lead to better things in the future and push you to achieve ever greater heights.

Many people pray for a specific thing.
If the person gets their prayer answered the way they want THEY PRAISE AND THANK THE GOD.
If the Prayer is answered with a NO.
Or they do not get what they want - they do not have to BLAME the God, they simply accept the ""NO WAY"" as the wish of THE GOD.
That is not to difficult to accept --or understand, for a True Christian.

Because that would mean that prayer does not always work and that parts of the bible and thus God are false. If the Christians blamed God then they would realize that he does not exist and therefore does not answer prayers. In their eyes he can do no bad, which is logically impossible.

Who says they don't praise Jesus even when they lose. Only God knows the heart of a man.

Jesus is not god, he never said he was, he always said he was the son of the Most Holy Father Jehovah. even his disciples said he was the son. how can you pray to yourself? you can not also Jesus or Jehovah have nothing to do with you winning or losing a game so don't blame either one

Because we should be thankful to God and Jesus no matter what experience we have, not blame. That would be bad.

don't forget entertainers too.
because loss means a failure or shortcoming on someone's part, and Jesus/God do not create failure or shortcomings.
each individual is given abilities for success, function and daily living. people use those abilities and make them what they want.
