"The Crusades are often portrayed by the uninformed or politically motivated as a mission by the Christians to loot, plunder and convert Muslims to Christianity. Nothing could be further from the truth. Scholars have discovered through historical records and the charters of the Crusaders that the majority of Crusaders were wealthy men with their own land in Europe. They gave up everything they had to go on what they considered a holy mission and, more often than not, came back with nothing. Nor was their mission one of colonialism. They fought to restore Jerusalem and Christian lands from the hands of Muslim Jihadists who had themselves pillaged, plundered, and conquered.

The Crusaders mission was never to convert Muslims. It was to defeat and defend against them. When the crusaders did win a territory, Muslims were always allowed to keep their religion and usually their land and property. The Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem always had a larger Muslim population than it did Catholic. Any later attempts to convert Muslims were by peaceful means, not by force. This cannot be said of the Muslim invaders. Conversion to Islam was forced by penalty of death in many cases, and when it wasn’t, Christians were forced to live as second-class citizens and pay the Jizya, a tax required of non-believers."

Not even close to the same.

Point in Crusades was "to free" Holy Land, from who ever was there at the time ( Muslims), and Militant Islam is freeing what?
I agree that the violence during the crusades was unimaginable, but
Holy Land was then an "European" kingdom and a holy land for Christianity, ( no excuses for atrocities),
But what is the point for militant Islam, are they fighting to free America, or china or Russia.
It seems that they fight for freedom of mecca, wait but mecca is free and under Muslim control,so why are they fighting?
Because they feel oppressed in they states, do they not have freedom of religion in these Islamic states, ah yes all Muslims are free to pray to Allah,OK what about other religions, could perhaps
Mormons come to Iran or Saudi Arabia and preach Mormonism.
No, even main monotheistic religions have no right in Islamic countries under modern version of Sharia law,
So really why is militant Islam similar to crusades, crusades had war atrocities, militant Islam has terrorism, but during the crusades militant Islam had its terror group, see on the net under
hasan ibn al sabah, alias old man from the mountain, and his killers who spread terror in the middle east,
wait middle east , it seems that there was terrorism almost 900 years ago.
No I do not think that this is similar, if there were Islamic holy land in middle of Europe or America, and Islams try to liberate it , then I would call it similar.
This here today is their way of spreading Islamic influences and fight for how did Hitler called it ,space for breathing

No, but they're very similiar. The primary motivation and methodology employed by each group is what makes them different.

The Crusaders were variously motivated by ignorance, greed for the spoils of war and chasing after the carrot of penance, and Islamists by ignorance, anachronism and despair. Ask yourself what the commmon denominator here is.

Not to mention the obvious fact they're about 1000 years apart, and there's a whole lot about the world that has changed since then.

WRONG - deff not correct.... Militant Islam is for the destruction and total conversion or death of anyone who does not bow down to ALLAH.. \\

The Crusades were those people who were defending the maurauding Militants in order to keep their freedom and be able to let everybody worship whom they pleased. They were defending the HOLY LAND (Jersalem and Palestine) as the rightful place for the Jewish people and all of christiandom. The crusaders took the muslems under their wings and let them worship their god in peace together where as militants are bent on NO PEACE!!! just the take over of one world religion being ISLAM

Not really. The crusades were actual wars, with battles and horses and cities being burned to the ground. The "battles" fought today are impersonal, and with bombs instead of swords. There are some similarities, but many obvious external differences as well.

No, the horrible crusades were designed to recapture the holy lands. Militant Islam is trying to convert the entire world to their "religion" by force, or kill the infidels that refuse to convert.

Probably so. Though the Crusades and the complexity surrounding them make them in many ways vastly different from "militant Islam", they both involve serious aberration of their respective faiths.

Thank you for your question.
If you google “ethics of war in Islam” you will be surprised how it compare to what we have today and what we see instead. Islam war is launched only under the principle of justice and to protect every human soul, every animal and even plant. See what this experienced lady have to say about her capture by the most extreme Islamic government in the world the Taliban:

no. nowherein the bible does it preach for violence. the Quran demands violence against any who are not for their god. crusades were more political than religious, the militant islam is just a bunch of rowdy, primitive, misled cowards blowing themselves up to make a name for their families and hopefully get some virgins in the after-life.

Yes, fundamentalists all over the world are made from the same mold. They kill each other and innocents in the name of their god. It's all rather sick, and we as humans should really strive to rise above it because we are actually smarter than that.
