When a toddler runs toward the street a small smack on a diaper is fine. The FACE is NEVER a place for a "smack" - NEVER! I like the psychological punishment better. A mother I meet, when I was teaching, use to come to school in her robe, with slippers and cold cream on her face and cuddle her 12 year old son. Just called him honey and hugged him in front of all his friends! He was the best behaved! She would also bring cupcakes and then as she was serving them she would tell everyone how cute he was as a baby when he would take his diaper off! As I said she had the best behaved son.

I believe in spankings, which I consider a swat on the bottom, never on the face or any other body part. Spankings should never leave marks. Swat just enough to get the childs attention. I was spanked as a child, and I know thats why I listened to my parents. They never beat me, or hit me in the face, just my bottom. This works well up until a certain age. Can you imagine trying to spank a teenager.

I tried spanking my toddler and found that it didn't work. What I found DOES work is CONSISTENT time-outs. Taking away things the child wants as punishment and giving them something for good deeds. It has worked so much better.
So in answer, I used to think physical punishment was OK, but after actually having been a parent, I disagree with it.

Spanking on the bottom yes. If it's done in the correct manner with other behavior modification and love, it will gain respect and foster courage. Since spanking has become so taboo, how are the children behaving today.

No, man....not the face. That's just wrong. A spanking never hurt anyone, so long as it's not a beating. Most of the attitudes I run up against now-a-days are from CHILDREN that were never disciplined.

Absolutely! In today's society, kids know there are limits to what a parent can do to control them, and behave accordingly. Nothing elicits compliance better than the very real fear of a serious *** kicking. In most cases, one is sufficient. The mere threat afterwords can do the trick. However, in the case of a pathological bad actor, no amount of *** kicking will elicit compliance. The real challenge is knowing when to stop, and knowing where the dividing line between abuse and punishment exists

Yes, I do think it should be legal. First of all, it should be the parents choice anyway. I was spanked when I was little, and it worked. There are too many bratty kids these days, and I think that they deserve a smack.

Nope. Children respond better to praise than punishment, so if a parent told them why their behaviour was wrong and what the child should do instead, it would help. Especially if the child was praised when doing the correct actions of the previous wrong

No. No. No. No. No. Violence begets violence begets violence. It is never the answer. Under ANY circumstances. All physical "punishment" does is prove that the adult is out of control in their reaction to what they consider to be an inappropriate behavior of the child (if hit by this adult, this child then becomes a victim of violence).
