The problem that I see here is that if all you are doing is brushing then you still aren't doing enough. You also have to floss and rinse. When I taught oral hygien in the Navy, I used to tell everyone to rinse with a dental rinse first, such as listerine, then brush with a soft bristle toothbrush and any toothpaste you choose at a light to moderate pressure. Start on one side of your mouth and brush 1 tooth at a time with 10 strokes per tooth keeping the bristles of the brush at a 45 Degree angle towards the gum line. After brushing you must floss. Don't rinse the toothpaste out of your mouth until you floss between each tooth. When you slide the floss up and down between your teeth stop when you hear theh surface you are cleaning start to squeak. Once you have done all of that rinse with water and then again with listerine. Swish the listerine around in your mouth for no less than 30 seconds. If you follow these instructions and have someone teach you the proper way to handle dental floss, all of your Dental appointments will be painless.

NO - you are supposed to brush your teeth for 3 minutes each time. You can get a little timer for our counter so you know when you can stop.

I brush mine for three minutes. It increases the blood flow to your gums and makes them healthier, along with your teeth. I tell my kids to hum "Jesus loves me" two times while they brush, and then they're done.
It's never too late to start, unless you've lost all your teeth :-)
Much Love!!

That's the recommended time, but not required time. You should brush your teeth until they are clean, however long that takes.

I read where you should brush for 8 minutes - 2 minutes on each quad.
My dentist always stresses floss - floss - and floss.
