Yes, a pedometer will do taht for you. You basically measure the average lenght of your step and enter it in your pedometer. Not all models have that feature, so look for it when you purchase your pedometer.

Pedometers can be inaccurate. And I don't know of any that measure in miles; it's usually steps. However, I have a suggestion. If you know your route ahead of time, or can remember it afterwords, you can find out the mileage of your trip by visiting http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/.

Yes. They keep track of steps, but you measure your average stride and program it in and it can tell you the distance by multiplying your steps by your stride length.

Some will concert the number of steps taken into distance traveled.

You may have to calibrate it so that it understands how long your average stride(step) is so that it can provide you with a more accurate estimate on how far you've walked.
