We are going to be awarded a scholarship for three of our children to attend a catholic school that would pay about half of the tuition.. The school will probably help us out a little too, but it will STILL be a little bit of a struggle to pay it.. We love the school though. Do you think that it is worth it to try and make it work, or do you think public schools are just fine? We do have a pretty good public school system, but I like the religious aspect and also the catholic school is small and family like.

That is entirely up to you. I wouldn't send my sons to any public school. There isn't a Catholic school around, and we are Catholic. We home school.

I went to public school for elementary school and Catholic school for middle school and high school. I liked Catholic school. Since there are less students you get to know everyone. I am Catholic but not everyone in the school was. Catholic schools do not brain wash - my high school also taught us about other religions.

Where the students get a better education - that depends on the teachers and their qualifications.

You need to research each school and decide which will be the best fit for your family. Good luck.

If it is at all possible a private education is far better than anything the public schools have to offer.

I am an atheist and I wouldn't think twice about it. I would do anything possible to be able to fund the difference. Beans for three meals a day would be the starting point, and it would get tighter from there.

I wouldn't send my children to any religious based school. Public schools have produced some of the most brilliant minds around. Whatever problems they are current having is more the result of the apathy of certain teachers and administrators. Also the attitude I find in talking with young kids is one of non caring. The best teacher in the world can not teach a mind that is not willing to learn.

I went to a Catholic school and I loved it. There is such a sense of community there. I'm not very religious either. And we had Sikh, Hindu, protestant kids at our school. Its not like the school is pushing Catholicism. Its mainly about Christian values anyway. Love, respect, manners, all the good stuff...

Make it happen for your kids. The political correctness is so pervasive in public schools that children no longer learn responsibility for their actions or values. Discuss with your kids and explain that it may be a struggle with the budget. Ask them to volunteer ways that you can cut expenses. If you use their ideas, they will be emotionally invested in making it work for you.
Good Luck!

At the end of the day, no one knows your financial situation as well as you do -- so it's ultimately up to you.

Having said that, if I could swing it financially at all, I would go for the Catholic school. As a group, they are just better than public schools.

yes. a scholarship is a scholarship; just dont keep them there forever. send them to a different (public) high school so they can get a feel of the non-sectarian world. i myself did that, and yes there are good and bad sides to both. in a catholic school the kids are generally more disciplined and (duh) religious, but the people are matronly and authoritative. in a publics school kids are able to express themselves more freely, but the discipline is sometimes more lax.

imho it's better to get a taste of both worlds are use that to yer advantage. :)

Pray, pray, pray about it. If it is the Lord's will that your children attend then send them, God will provide the financial means. It still may not be easy, but your children need to learn all they can about their God and their Saviour and this is one more way to teach them. Make sure they are in Sunday School and Church service EVERY Sunday. What you teach them NOW does matter later! Good luck and God bless. ~Nisa

My Father was Catholic, my Mother Baptist, and they argued when I was a child about what school I should go to - the solution was that they let ME choose, and I have been happy with the outcome.
