They have self-promotions and not employee promotions.

i wonder the same thing sometimes . I guess you would call my position middle management . It has been very hard and stressfull to get noticed and promoted . The problem with my situation is that the next step up would be divisiional manager which would be responsible for multi unit management . Usually you can't get that job unless you have multi unit experience or have a business degree ( in my comany anyway ) in the history of my company there have been 3 people that worked their way up and all 3 have been fired , so the record speeks for itself . But i continue to keep working hard and will be there one day . the bottom line is the better man/woman wins and experience or a diploma is a more secure hire than taking a risk

Have you asked your immediate supervisor what the steps are that you can take to help you be promoted? You may be exhibiting behavior that is causing you to be left behind. If your supervisor can't help you, maybe someone in HR can make some recommendations. Good Luck.

They promote people, usually the ones who has been kissing butts for awhile or are relatives of the higher ups.

That's the problem with the government and with the US! The most qualified person generally doesn't get promoted. it is usually the biggest brown noser who shouldn't even have the job!!

The same reason why equal opportunity employers don't hire all races of people. The required government sign is posted, but the intent of the law is not followed.
