how come there isnt one religion that doesn't beg for money? the mormon church has a billion dollar gold statue on the roof, the christians have the vatican with billions worth of art, the jews have everything, the muslims have all the oil in the world, AND STILL, they all beg for money from their poor folowers. Why does god need money. This shows me that a belief in god is just a way to control weak minded people and scam their money. Am I wrong??

Sounds like you hit the nail on the head. Money is power and despite Jesus teaching to rid yourself of it, the churches pursue money like crazy. Money gives them the power to recruit, so they get bigger and make more money. It's a business just like anything else. If one of the congregation loses their job or falls on hard times the church rarely coughs up some money, they just send a second collection bowl around.

But if people are stupid enough to fall for it, they deserve everything they get (and lose).

You are right in asking where the money is going to.

The Catholic church has immense wealth but the church is 2000 years old. A business that was 2000 years old and run well should be at least that size. Microsoft is in its infancy and already worth trillions of dollars.

The gold statue on the mormon temples is not billions of dollars. At $540 an ounce it would take a 60 ton statue of solid gold to be worth that amount. The statue is gold plated. Local mormon leaders such as bishops and other positions earn no salaries.

Jehovah's witnesses also earn no salaries. They are completely volunteer.

Unless your congregation meets in the forest, it requires money to open a church. It requires money to buy materials. It even requires money to advertise the location of your church in the yellow pages or other sources.

People who donate money to their church feel that they receive benefits from it. Evidence suggests that people who pay tithes and attend weekly meetings are happier than those who don't.

Perhaps they are getting a benefit for their money that is worth its weight in gold.

To correct you: The Mormon Church does not have a billion dollar statue on its temples. It isn't worth that much-sorry. We, like many other Christian churches, are asked to give a tithing each month which is 10% of what we earn. This is also mentioned in the Bible as well. That money goes to building our beloved temples and helping the needy. When Hurricane Katrina hit, the LDS church were the first ones to send aid.

Churches are non-profit organizations. If they want to have a building and be able to pay their bills, they must ask for donations. I don't know of any church that charges admission, so again, they rely on the donations of the members of their congregation. My church sends missionary teams to many countries throughout the world. The cost to support those families and their missionary work is over 2 million dollars. The money goes not only for food and clothing, but also to help improve the living conditions of the people in the places where our missionaries are. For example, our donations paid to put plumbing into a village in Thailand, and to purchase a piece of badly needed medical equipment in the Dominican Republic.

If churches want to continue this kind of work, they need money. That's why they ask for donations. And by the way, all donations are tax deductible!

I hear this question eveyday in my life and it just shows that some people really see the wrong side of christianity and for the most part other faiths as well. In the bible it states that we give to cesar that which belongs to cesar and give to god that which belongs to god. He asks for 10% of everything and it's not really seen as a give me what you have to christians, it's more of a give me what i'm letting you borrow sort of thing. We don't own anything, it's all God's, so we give him 10% of our money, time, life anything just to show our faith. Now there are some "churches" that will almost every week preach on tithing and how the church is going to hell becuz they aren't giving enough money. These are the ones that people look at and call the churches greedy.

Churches are organizations that are ran just like businesses. They need money for light bills, heat, etc. If a church as a TV minstry they have to pay for TV time, lighting, sound equipment, etc. If Churches want to send missionaries they have to support them. If they want to donate money to help people, they have to find the money to do it... it techinically isn't the religion that needs the money, or God.... the money is for the individual Churches or doctrines and their outreach.

God doesn't need money, people do.

Not all religions ask for money, but it does take money to feed and house a priest/pastor/priestess/whatever, and you have to pay for land or rent for a place to gather to worship. And you also need money to help people less fortunate than yourself.

Yes there are theives that use religion as a means to get money and power, but don't paint everyone with the same brush.

Yes, you are wrong. It isn't the religion that asks for money its the church. They need the money to make the church better for the size of it. They are NOT begging!

i believe that all of my money came from God. He is the source of all my abilities and oppurtunities. i have no problem giving back to Him what came from Him to begin with.
God doesn't need our money, but the world does. if you believe the bible, then you should belong to a church. a church building has needs: electicity, water, gas, etc...
