Jesus refers to 3 messengers that would follow Him. The Comforter (John 14, 15, & 16), Himself, and the Spirit of Truth that guides to all truth (John 14, 15, & 16). So clearly there are messengers in the past (or for some, the future) that have (or will) come after Jesus.

Now it is just a matter of who do we recognize as these 3 Messengers, this is what has caused the divisions among the people of God. Clearly it was the intent of Jesus that we seek and turn toward these persons when they appear, since He Himself would send them to us to continue our growth towards and knowledge of the Father.

There have been and still are many masters, prophets and messengers bringing the truth of God to us.

I give you:

Jesus, Aesop, Confucius, Lao-tzu, Buddha, Muhammad, Moses, Chuang Tzu, Aristotle, Huang-po, Sahara, Mahavira, Krishnamurti, Paramahansa Yogananda, Ramana Maharshi, Kabir, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Thich Nhat Hanh, the Dalai Lama, Elizabeth Clinton, Sri Aurobindo, Mother Teresa, Meher Baba, Mahatma Gandhi, Kahlil Gibran, Baha-' Alla-h, Ernest Holmes, Sai Baba, Joan of Arc, Francis of Assisi, Joseph Smith, Wayne Dyer, Neale Donald Walsch, Sylvia Browne, Sonia Choquette, Ram Dass, Stephen Hawking, David Hawkins, Marianne Williamson, Louise L. Hay, William Thomas Tucker, Doreen Virtue, Jerry and Esther Hicks... and the list goes on. Listen to your heart and you too will hear the word of God. It resides in everyone, we just don't all choose to hear.

It does not end. In no way do I believe that prophets and messengers ended 2000 years ago when the human race and God's love lives on.

The question assumes a fact not in evidence: the proposition that Jesus (or anyone else) was in fact a messenger of God. As phrased, the question will be answered by some people as Muhammad, or Joseph Smith, or any of a number of others, but no such answer is credible.

The Catholic Church would tell you that the Pope is the messenger from God to Man.

However, the Gnostic Gospel of St. Thomas states that God is part of us all and no man needs a priest or temple in order to worship.
Man doesn't need to have a messenger if you can talk to God directly.

God Himself came to the earth in a body of flesh, to bring us His Own message.
There is no more need for a "messenger".

After Jesus 1000 year reign and Satan's destruction, there will be no need for a go between.
Currently we have the written message which is completely sufficient information to guide all honest-hearted ones to everlasting life.

The final messenger was Mohammad PBUH, and his message (the holy Quran, and his traditions) are authentic, evidence-based, and perfectly preserved for generations to come. Thanks.
