Did you see the prog on TV a couple of months ago about the people who were absolutely enormous & could do nothing but lie in bed with all their bellies laying at the side!! Having to be oiled to keep skin moist & fed continually....... Why wasnt the problem sorted B4 they got to that state..... I know its everyones free will to do as they please but whats the point of that, when they put an enormous strain (no pun intended) on hospitals & other services & know they are killing themselves.

Listen.

There are many reasons why people end up at that state. They do not put anymore "enormous" of a strain on hospitals as Old people who are "dying" and ill people. Morbid obesity is an illness and to be honest I kinda take offense at the way you put your question. So Ill take it you have never had a weight issue. Let me help you understand. There is such thing as NO metabolism, some people get to that point and have no control.

Why do people smoke? They put enormous strain on hospitals... Why because it is addicting? No self control? Stress? Anything.

There is illnesses out there that I dont understand either, but you wont understand that unless you are in their shoes. So instead of writing questions like that become less ignorant and ask more intelligent questions such as ... Why do people become morbidly obese? Instead of stating they have to have oil ribbed on them and their bellies hang to the side. I dont think it is fun, I think it is offensive. Grow Up.

So what was your actual question? After all you wrote Ill take it as your question was as I had stated. "Why do people become morbidly obese?" because of health reasons, sometimes because of having no self control, depression and so on. Same as Smokers or Alcholics

Good Luck

well they obviously have some kind of addictive personality to allow themselves to get the way they do, for example smoking is an addictive habit ,people know that it will kill them eventually , but yet people still smoke .. the food must act as some form of drug for these people, there is usually an underlying issue such as self esteem problems, insecurities, bad experiences but i agree that these people should try and address these problems that they have before they get to a stage of being totally reliant on the people and services around them. But in some cases people can have genuine medical reasons which leads to this, so we musn't discriminate,

One must also take into concideration what caused them to allow this to happen to themselves. What isn't explained is that these people probably also suffer from some sort of sever depression that isn't or wasn't treated properly.

because when it all comes down to it no matter what you say to person you can't make a person change...that person must want to change

Losing weight or being healthy is a lifestyle change not just a new thing added to your routine....some people are raised to be fat...bad habits are hard to break

The same reason that alcoholics can't stop on their own, their drug of choice is simply food.

The difference ids that you can go "cold turkey" on drinking, but you can't do that with food.
