Are you sure that the article wasn't a hoax?

Present treatment for depression is related to changing neurotransmitter (such as serotonin) imbalance in the nerve synapses. Psychiatrists have found that people associate their bad feelings with the most recent bad outcome (say, a divorce), but when people take the proper medications, they don't have run-on thoughts that they used to complain of. They still get sad if a bad thing happens, but they are more able to cope with it and solve it.

Back to the initial question: Look closely at the wording of the article and also the "related links" at the bottom. I really wonder if the article was a hoax.

The cause: the conflict of what you are expected by your family and society to be as a person, and the reality of what you can be "in practice" on the other hand.

Though, medical conditions do also generate depression.
