If someone says, "I don't believe in god", the certain few attack you with a comeback of saying that you're going to hell. That's not very accepting or religious-like at all in my opinion. Gee, if I was god I would want people to feel accepted, and not throw them into the fiery pits of hell if they don't believe in me. I KNOW THAT ALL RELIGIOUS PEOPLE ARE DEFINITELY NOT LIKE THIS. I am talking about a certain few. Can someone who knows what I'm talking about please answer this??

Yes, but suspender.. a bridge that ends midway is something that everyone can see. I don't think the existence of hell is yet proven by all.

For the most part, they are full of a bunch of hooey. They focus on one or two aspects of the Bible and ignore the rest. Did you know that in the same chapter as one of the 7 verses in the Bible that speaks on homosexuality, is a verse saying that it is okay to own slaves from neighboring countries? Fundie whackos ignore that one. Or in that same chapter there is another verse damning people for wearing clothing made of two type of fabric. It pretty damn hard to find clothing that is 100% anything these days, so its a good bet that all those people damning you for not following their beliefs are breaking the two fabrics rule. Why is it that they say the rules about fabrics and owning slaves are outdated, but the rules on homosexuality, that are in the same bloody chaper, are not? Bunch of hooey!

Further more, Jesus says in the Bible that it is not for man or even for him to decide who goes to heaven and who goes to hell. That judgment is reserved for the Father alone. They have no right to judge you. Remind them of that next time they are casting you into the fiery pits of hell for whatever reason.

Why are there a certain few "atheists" attack you with a comeback of saying that you're a moron or an idiot for having faith in a personal God Who loves me and gave Himself for me?

I suppose the reasons for both intollerances are the same, don't you think?

The reasons can be:
1) They feel that their belief system is being attacked
and they need to defend their position.

2) They are not certain of their own beliefs and become
angry when they are challenged.

3) They feel a need to be superior to the other person.

4) They cannot adequately defend their point of view
so they choose to attack.

I'm sure there are other reasons but, as you can see, these reasons can be ascribed to both the 'religious' and the 'atheist.'

Of course these reasons are not an excuse for treating anyone with disrespect. The Christian needs to pay attention to I Peter 3:15 - Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.

I cannot site any reason that an atheist should treat others with respect. I can't say "because it's the right thing to do" because who determines what the 'right thing to do' is? It's up to each individual person and their standards change with their moods or opinions.

Thanks for the 2 points.

OH I KNOW!!! I live in the deep south and there's not one conversation you can have with people that doesn't at some point, result in "and then i was saved" or "and then the lord"...My biggest peeve is how people keep talking about God like he's their best friend or next door neighbor: "God wouldn't want...", "God wouldn't like...", "God doesn't think..." - HELLLOOO did they all turn into Jesus overnight that they have this wonderful insight???

I know how you feel. I'm agnostic - which is to say I'm not decided one way or another as to whether or not I believe there is a God - and I swear down here you can't even say OMG or HELL without someone almost having a coronary!!! RIDICULOUS!

Well... that is the truth of the matter. Jesus clearly states, “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven." Matthew 10: 32-33 NKJV.

But on the other hand, you to are God's creation and he does love you. He desires a relationship with you and he wants to spend eternity with you. He wants you to have everlasting life. However, these things are just not handed over for free, they do come at a cost. Meaning an acceptance and fervent belief in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, a true repentance for your sins, and a desire to live as the new born creature of the spirit that you will become. Now God doesn't tell you that any of these things will be easy, he just tells us that they will be worth it.

I don't agree that people should beat the unchurched over the heads with their bibles, I too feel that is wrong. It is not my job to make you believe in God; that's God's job. My job as a Christian is to share with you what I have experienced in my life that has lead me to faith and why I believe as I do. After that I hand the wheel over to God and let him drive because He's been doing it far longer than me. Personally, I'd love for you to see the value of faith and a relationship with God because after 5 years of being a Christian I can't imagine being without Him. I now go to church, I have real friends that truly care about me and actually call me on the phone when I've not been at bible study for a couple of weeks. I see things daily that God does in my life that let me know He is there and watching out for me. That's a good feeling. Plus I know that I'm a better person than I was five years ago. So take those silly "going to hell" few with a grain of salt and find a church where you feel welcome. Listen to the pastor and see how the Spirit will move in your heart. Then you can make up your own mind. God Bless.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I call those kind, self righteous.
A lot of it is just ignorance from not studying the word of God or fear that someone will convince them that there isn't a God. Either way, we're talking about uneducated believers or certain few that were brainwashed and taught condemnation rather than being taught the mercy and love of God.

They do this because they are concerned for your soul. They tell you are going to hell because if you don't change your way of thinking it is a fact. Would you much rather that they lie to you? True Christians cannot do that because if they did, God would hold them accountable for that. Unfortunately your opinion of it being religious-like or not does not matter. It remains a fact. You gave these instances of what it would be like if you were a god and so forth, in a perfect world that would be nice. But we do not live in a perfect world. You are correct, all 'religious' people are not like that and all religious people will not be going to Heaven either.

i understand where ur coming from...i am an atheist..and people tend to think that all atheists are evil, dishonest, and just in general very bad people....to all of the ultra religious people that like to force beliefs on everyone think about this...

one its not a choice if u believe in god or not...i tried for 14 years and i dont...

second who has more to lose? an atheist who will according to the bible spend an eternity in hell if we are wrong or religious people who will apparently go to heaven because they believe?

I'm not shoving anything on anyone. You ask, I answer. If you don't want the answer, don't ask the question.

As to the people who say 'you're going to Hell', they feel that they must warn you. Would you let someone drive onto a bridge that you knew ended in mid-air? Or would you try to stop them? It's the same here.

i have to deal with a couple of teachers in my school who are like this , i go to a religious catholic private school and i have to say that some people try to push their belifs on you becuase it makes them feel as though they have justified there actions and they have helped ther religious order in the world. some other people are brought up to be prejudice in the world and want to change as many people as they can either way, life just revolves faster for some people.
