I am moving into an apartment with three cats, and I won't have a basement to hide the boxes. I have been using Maxx clumping litter for years, and I'm wondering if anyone has used that, but found a better litter than that stuff.

I have three cats also. After trying several kinds, I have found that Tidy Cats Small Spaces is the best.

I've always liked Tidy Cat Crystals Blend. As you know though, the amount of times you clean the litter box will also keep the odor away. I just found this great product at the store. I believe it's also Tidy Cat. It's litter box liners in 10 layers. All nine top layers have a weave at the bottom that lets you sift the clean litter into the next layer so you don't even have to use a scoop when you clean up after your cat. It's pretty cool...for cat litter that is.

There are a lot of great cat litters, I like Tidy Cat brand. Spend a litte more, and get a lot more odor protection. The cheap stuff sucks, also I use a littermaid (actually 2 I have 5 cats), this keeps the litter box area smelling great. (until they get full)

the very best is the silicone beads or chips.. this is the most odor controlling litter there is but some cats dont like the texture

the litter that cats like best is non-scented clumping, if you find one with BAKING SODA in it then that does a good job of controlling odors (PESTEL CLUMPING WITH BAKING SODA is what I use)

the food your cat eats will make a big difference too - grocery store and wal mart food is basically loaded with fillers so the cat needs to eat much more (poops more) and his digestive tract needs to work harder - this makes smellier poops
Yucca is an ingredient for controlling odors in poops

I have used Freshstep and Tidy cat both with success with my cats. You might want to make sure to get the multicat formula...it works harder to eliminate the odors. Just make sure to clean the boxes out often. We bought one of the Littermaid motorized boxes and it's wonderful. 5 minutes after the cat leaves the box, it scoops up the waste and deposits it into a container for containment. When it's full, all you do is lift it out and dispose of it.

I use that silicon stuff too. It is the best for cutting the odor. But prepare to sweep often cuz the crystals are so small they always get all over the place. I get the stuff at Trader Joe's. It's in the red box, I forget the name.

My cat uses SCOOP AWAY cat litter. it works the best. i have not so far had any problems with the litter. it absorbs both liquid and solid. Trust me, its the best of the best. It is currently in competition with Fresh Step which i havent tried yet...
