We are all of the belief that you should pass away in your sleep at a ripe old age, and not get caught in a traffic accident, or blown up by a car bomb, or OD.
I guess a better term would be, "He was taken too soon."

Many people are under the false assumption that people shouldn't die until they are very old. Death is not a respector of persons. It can come to us regardless of our age, race, religion, wealth, creed. Death can be quick and painless while it can also be gradual and filled with pain. There are so many ways a person can die and it scares people. Ideally it would be nice if we died in our sleep. But this isn't always the case. So when people die of a car accident or a drive by shooting or something more violent, people say "they died an untimely death".

untimely compared to the understood average old age death
Death comes as a thief in the night. Be prepared! Let Jesus be able to answer for you when you're called to the father. If you're not in the book of life, you'll go to hell. If you're found, and only Jesus can place your name there, then you'll be in heaven with the angels and other saints.

We are never ready for the loss of someone and its usually said about a person who is not of full age or a person who has not completed their mission in life. We feel a great sense of loss because we were not ready for them to go. Look at the singer Aailiyah for example; and Elvis Presley, Princess Diana, and Kenedy Jr. These people were in the prime of life and it was shortened so quickly, we can't make since of it.

there is a time and place for everything...I don't believe any person's death is untimely...even children die for a reason....we may never know what the reason is but that is just fate

If a 95 year old man dies of cancer THAT is timely... if a 25 year old man dies of a heart attack... THAT is untimely... it was before his time to die.

It means that it was "untimely" for the persons left behind. They are going to miss this person and didn't want him/her to go from their lives.

Humans have an uncanny sense of time. We always try to place things on our own personal timetable. For example: It was hard for many of us to understand when we celebrated the dawning of the year 2,000, not all of the world was celebrating the year 2,000.
So if we have problems understanding cultural timetables, how could we ever begin to comprehend God's timetable?

Untimely is you die without you expected it or sudden. Timely is when you know or you have a strong feeling that you're gonna die.
