It is replaced by lies

2006-07-15 03:19:07 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 0 1

Common Courtesy has been replaced by everyones own self indulgence in themselves and the tight circle of people that surrounds them, noone cares about their fellow man these days and that is probably the number one thing that has led to the downfall of our society.

It began to ebb away in the 70s, when people began to focus not on others, but on themselves; courtesy, of course, has at its heart, concern and human feeling for others, and so it took a back seat to displays of ego.

Kids raised in the 70s grew up and spawned, and, knowing nothing of decent behavior, had nothing to teach their children on that topic.

We're now two generations into a society that promotes the self (there is even a magazine so titled!), but has little to say on matters of everyday respect and concern for others.

much of it was women-lib'ed out of us in the 70's. when a man opened a door for a woman, she replied she was capable. same with chairs at the table, etc. gender courtesy is starting to come back because it is once again recognized as such, courtesy and not superiority.

It is still out here, it is just not as common.

As to where it went? I do not want to play the 'parents' card, but I am sure that if they were paying as much attention as they should, kids would have more respect.

My particular circle of friends has a number (all) of parents who have instilled great values and respect in their kids. As a result they are pleasant to be around and are well-behaved.

I would hope that there will be a renaissance of manners and kids will again start to respect their elders and themselves. The video generation still has a lot to learn.

Common courtesy, like common sense, is no longer common.

Values have gone into the toilet. Who's to blame? I'm not sure. There are so many sources of negativity and hardly anyone sets a good example, whether they are rockstars, politicians, priests, or whomever. You could blame television, the movies, and/or the media. We are surrounded by bad influences.

Children don't know what they haven't been taught. It's all in the "home training". It is wonderful when you do see it, especially in children, and I always try to comment positively when it happens, both to the child and the parent. Reinforce the good, ignore the bad.

Unfortunately the world today is full of rude people out for themselves only. It's sad that people can't be polite to each other, and just get along.

Every now and then I come across a courteous person. Makes up for all the jerks out there.
