A friend of mind put a virtual drive on my computer. I don't really know much about it, but I know he somehow copied a CD game and put it in mycomputer like an extra drive. If I click on it, it will let me play the game without actually having the cd in it. However, it has also screwed my computer up before and I can't find out how to delete it. I've had other computer geeks spend 8 hours trying to get rid of it.

A virtual drive is a drive that a software creates on your system without the actual hardware being present. The advantages of a virtual drive are:-

firstly u can load the image of a CD onto this drive without having 2 put the CD in the actual drive (some games and software need the CD 2 run- so u avoid that bother). of course u need 2 burn the image of that cd on ur hard drive 1st.

secondly some cds that have copyright protection and cant be copied by normal cd copying software can be copied by this. but pls dont use the same 2 mare pirated copies- only 4 backup.

A virtual drive is a term used with respect to computers when a drive is emulated in some fashion. The drive being emulated could be a hard drive, floppy drive, CD/DVD or a network share among others.

A virtual hard drive can be created from RAM for fast read/write access. See: RAM disk. As well, there is software that makes one's Gmail account act as a virtual external drive.

Virtual DVD or CD drives are often mounted disk images via disk image emulator software. This allows one to read a CD or DVD from the disk image that is usually located on the hard drive, rather than from the disc drive. This allows users to run software requiring the CD or DVD without having to swap discs, or even possess it.

A virtual drive allows you to copy files from a CD and create a virtual drive so you can run programs without having to put in the CD. It is also uselful for copying a CD. The files are actually on your hard drive, but the computer recognizes it as a separate drive.
