"And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission." hebrews 9:22

his blood was shed so that ours doesn't have to be.

It's as the 1st answer stated, and also he took on all the sin in the world, I think if he had lived he would have be driven mad from all the pain caused by all the sin in the world then and the sin through today. And to the one who said God made us flawed so God is flawed, This is close to a true statement and that is why he gave his sons life so that the error/flaw in us could be forgiven. I saw another question before this one "Why dont christians follow the 10 comandments?" Not giving an excuse or even a reason but does not God forgive us our sins if only we ask.

Jesus died oh yes i can tell you why

But what, exactly, is he saving us from? Though it varies from church to church, no matter what they call it, it's God himself. A hell created by God, a world fallen as a result of God's negligence, a separation from God imposed... by God.

"It is a counterfeit love that is contingent upon authority, punishment, or reward. True love is respect and admiration, compassion and kindness, freely given by a healthy, unafraid human being."

Christianity certainly isn't the first religion to promote appeasement of its gods, and if it were merely another supernatural protection racket, it would be bad enough. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there. Christians elevate appeasement to the realm of "personal relationship", transforming their religion into a true monstrosity.

This is the type of "relationship" that abused wives have with their husbands, that brainwashed hostages have with their captors. It is known in clinical circles as Stockholm Syndrome. Should it come as any surprise that the cries of the church, "The Bride of Christ" sound much like the cries of an abused wife attempting to protect her husband?

"He must beat me."
"I deserve it."
"He has no choice."
"It's for my own good."

These excuses don't work for human abusers, and they work even less well for God. For if God is omnipotent, he must have a choice. And if we are flawed, we are only flawed because that is the way he made us. (No excuses that we ruined his perfect creation. A truly perfect creation does not self-destruct.)

If the Christian God does exist - and I see no reason to believe that he does - he's not worthy of the name.

And that is the ultimate absurdity of Christianity.

Most do not.

He was brought to trial before Pontious Pilate because the Levite priests (who were very powerful men at that time) were uneasy with the huge following of people Jesus was accumulating over time. Many of Jesus' followers had stopped giving burnt offerings and money to the synagogue. (Burnt offerings are how the Levites fed themselves, since they were not allowed to own land.)

Pontious Pilate didn't think there was anything guilty about Jesus and asked a crowd whether to release Jesus or another guy guilty of murder.

The crowd chose to release the murderer. (Talk about being in the right place at the right time!)

Cruxifiction was the common way to kill any convicted criminal at that time.

Whether you believe this flow of events was pre-ordained by God in order for Jesus to die for the sins of mankind is a matter of faith.

to be honest with you, I don't have a true answer to why he had to die. You make some good points..the only way to truly know the answer to that is to ask God himself....

Would the story of this simple man have survived the centuries if He hadn't endured such a brutal death. The message is that we too can conquer all obstacles...even death.

He died for us to show that he love us-that's the main reason. He also wanted to clease all our sins and make us more like him.
