I have two cats, they both have the same diet, attention, etc. "Chewy" chomped into my computer cords and also goes after my leather purses - but only if I'm not looking. He also tears his toys to shreds. He's a 5 yr old Ragdoll. My other cat never bothers anything.

I adopted him 3 months ago - and the previous owners KNEW of his bad habit and didn't tell me! Other than that he is very sweet. He's declawed so I can't toss him outside. I keep these things away from him, but I also discovered he can open doors by himself!

Spray the cords with bitter apple spray! You can find it at Walmart or a pet store, it's cheap too!

I know some of the office stores sell these coiled up plastic looking things you can wrap your cords in. You could try buying some and wrap the cords so they are less "chewy" perhaps. You could build a casing for the cords with wood, plastic, or fabric (like a cord cozy), or papertowel/toilet paper cardboard rolls taped together around them.
Whether or not you do the permanent cord wrap, I'd definitely recommend treating the cords so they are unpleasant tasting for the cat. You can try using some cloth first aid tape to wrap the cords this alone won't stop the cat from chewing necessarily because the tape alone is pretty thin. But the cloth tape will soak up lemon, hot pepper sauce, or a pet store chewing detering spray better than the material the power cords are made of. Make sure you unplug the cords before you tape and treat them and keep them unplugged until the substance dries. You may need to retreat the cords a few times to keep the odor fresh and keep kitty away.
Also, if/when you catch kittty chewing or even going near the cords, make a loud noise. He won't associate the cords with your attention but with bad noise and maybe this will help deter him.
Lastly, do what you can to keep him away from the cords. If this means cat proofing a room and keeping him in it when you're out, then so be it. Even for the cat hating losers who posted that you should let him bite it and get a shock, I would point out that a frayed cord can present a shock and fire hazard to EVERYONE, not just the cat. So there's a serious need to get him to stop chewing the cords by means other than letting him get shocked.

Plug A Cord In, Wet A Little, Set The Cat Next To It, Walk Away, Then It Will Stop Chewing Electrical Cords(Hopefully).

Please do use tape to wrap around the cords to avoid your cat been electric-shock. The cat is more active and playful to play with the things which caught it attention. Maybe for the chords you can rub some "medication oil" on it, as the cat will dislike the smell and the taste, for you leather purses you have to keep your things away from him in order to stop him spoiling your things. What type of toys are you giving to him? Are you giving him the correct type of cat toys from pet shop, or toys that you think he prefer to play or unwanted stuffed toys etc for him to play?

Sigh, I had the same problems with one of my cats when he was a young adult. Spraying water is a good deterent, but you have to catch them. Whenever I see my cat doing wrong, I do a loud quick double clap with my hands close to him. I reinforce all negative behavior the same way. As time went on, she eventually stopped. Now shes' an older laid back cat that doesn't do ANYthing wrong now, hard to believe...
Some of the other posts said to try rubbing things on the cords, of course thats worth a try.

The shock from a cord that is plugged in can kill the cat. Buy Bitter Apple or Bitter Lime at the pet store. They hate the taste of this stuff.

Hey, the problem will probably take care of itself, if "chewy" doesn't wise up....i think there are some drops you can put on the wires so he gets a bad taste in his mouth, but maybe his own chewy toy would help, othere than that, its just something you will have to deal with

Unplug the cords, take a wedge of some citrus fruit (lemon, lime, orange) and rub the wedge along the whole length of the cord. Cats hate the smell of citrus.
