I've read all of the crap on how to remedy, but nothing seems to work. I'm sure that someone out there has been able to get past these painful problems....I love to run, but am hindered by the excruciating pain.

My contention is that I have been an on and off runner for 20 years, but 2 years ago I made a career change to an office job and put on 30-40 pounds. Since that time I have had the problem.

I have been on a rigorous program for 9 weeks and have lost about 9 pounds and I'm sure I have done some fat to muscle exchange as well. Last week I did focus on my stride and found that the pain was not as bad. As for the shoes, I just have to deal with my Nikes since I don't have room in my budget for $150 shoes.

Yes, I have. However, if you're already a runner my suggestion may not be right for you. When I developed shin splints I consulted with over a dozen podiatrists. The majority, 10 or so, told me to invest in high-end New Balance tennis shoes (800 - 900 series). First I opted for the 800 series and those helped. When I finally got into 992's my problems went away fairly quickly.

So, visit your doctor, consult with a running specialist, and good luck!

I was suffering from shin splints, too. I am doing boxing and two months ago i had that problem. What I did it was to give my legs a really good rest. No training for a month. If you suffer from shin splints and you don't give them enough rest, worst injuries can occur.
