It depends on how big of a room you have. If its a normal sized bedroom then a small size air conditioner will do the trick. However- if we are talking about a medium to large sized bedroom or a living room- go with a larger sized one made to cool multiple rooms!

Air conditioners are rated in BTU (the amount of energy needed to raise or lower a temperature by 1 degree). Most A/C units list the suggested room size to use in. Too powerful of a unit, and you're just wasting electricity. Too small and it'll never stop running.
Check the user manual, and it'll give you a good idea.

depends on the size of the room... an average bedroom 8,000 BTU unit that runs off of a 110 line.... 8,000 BTU unit usually cools up to a 200 square foot room.. Hope this helps!!!!
