Discipline never did any harm. A few years ago you may have been caned or strapped instead of just spanking. I am a firm believer in discipline , and that discipline does include spanking bottoms. I was spanked and see no reason why the prasctice should not continue.
I assume several facts. The spanking is reasonable , administered in private and not witnessed , and that spankings are more occasional than regular. If you have brothers / sisters I assume they are treated in the same way , and it is not just your bottom being attended to.
Corner time is also an effective and old fashioned punishment.
My one concern is : the discipline is from step-dad and not dad or Mum. I assume that Mum agrees with your spankings.
She should take your age and sexual maturity into account in allowing spankings - maybe there is a point at which bare bottom spankings are inappropiate (such a common political correct word nowadays) and perhaps a slippering or strapping would be better. Have you discussed the matter with your Mother?
Please feel free to contact me by yahoo answer email to discuss the matter sensibly and frankly if you are concerned. Otherwise there are helplines who may be able to help.

Exactly right, old fashioned punishment and there is NOTHING wrong with it and neither is the time out. Your parents are teaching you there is consequencies to wrong behavior, either punishment or time out. It doesn't stop there, when your grown we have rules to follow also and if we break them then it's not just a spanking on the bottom or stand there until your told to move but JAIL so you need to appreciate your parents and realize they do these things trying to help you. No parent Enjoys spanking there child. So, bottom line is we all have rules and some kind of punishment when rules are broken, both for the young and old.

There's a world of difference between discipline and child abuse. 99.9999999% of parents who smack their children are disciplining them. They are teaching them right from wrong.
If a child does something wrong, and they know it's wrong, and they get away with it, they'll do it again. There are other ways of disciplining children e.g. stopping their pocket money, grounding them, but smacking them is far more effective.
I have found with experience that you don't need to smack a child often, because after a couple of times they learn and smacking then becomes a deterrent.
When I was a child if I did wrong I got smacked, it's done me no harm and all this crap about banning corporal punishment in schools and trying to make it illegal to smack your own children is the reason why more kids today go off the rails and think they can do what they like.
There is a serious lack of respect

A swat on the rear is not "banned", obviously you've never had a switch or a paddle taken to your bottom. And standing in the corner, thats just like a time out.
If that's the worse punishment you get then you had better figure it out, straighten up and be thankful that you have a stepdad who cares about what you do.

Well, first off: how old are you? Second: what are you doing that warrants him to smack you on the bottom? Thirdly: how hard is he smacking you (i.e. do you bleed? is it only red? do you see bone?)? If you're older than 15, if you're only making small insignificant mistakes, if he's smacking you too hard: then it's wrong. As for standing in the corner - well, that's just a time-out where you're supposed to repent and think about what you did.

You can still punish your children. One or two swats on the bottom when they are young is not abuse. It is teaching them consequences for when they do something wrong. They do get to an age where there are more appropriate ways to punish their children. If you are a teenager it also works to ground you. How old are you and how many smacks is your step father giving you. Depending on your age and how he gives you the smacks is what might not be appropriate

I'm afraid I've never heard of this being banned. This is what happened to me when I was a kid and (except for the spanking) how my kids are punished. Spanking isn't outlawed but has been shown to be ineffective (I think I read that anyway). Timeout is a normal and usually good form of punishment along with loss of privelages and so on.
Stop being naughty....lol

I'm unaware of a ban on bottom smacking. don't be naughty and you won't have to worry about this. How old are you though? That makes a difference.

You people have no idea of what child abuse is. Being raised in the 60's when the phrase "child abuse" hadn't even been thought up yet. In fact, if more people disciplined their children today, there may not be so many unruly and disrespectful kids running around on the streets, nor would there be so many parents complaining or trying to figure out how to regain control.

I know that as a child if I only got "time outs" for punishment I would have ran all over my parents.
I understood a spanking as punishment for doing wrong. I would have laughed at a time out or restriction.
My dad was also the disciplinarian in the family. It does not mean that he liked it or that he was some sicko.
