its all a matter of opinion. personally i dont see spending a ton of money on a dress that youll wear only once. there are alot of white dresses out there, even in the formal wear sections of department stores that can easily be passed as wedding gowns. its your day, do it how you want. my fiance and i arent traditional people and we're having so much fun planning our wedding the way WE want, not to mention its much less stressful this way. we're not doing it in a church and its much cheaper and still just as beautiful. even if you want to go to the court house, go for it! spend the money on a honeymoon instead!

Personally, it's been a dream of mine since I was a little girl - to wear a beautiful wedding gown down the aisle to get married to the man I love. But it differs for people. I personally think that a wedding gown is important. Other people might not see a need or a desire. What's most important is that you do what you feel is right and necessary for your wedding - it's of most significance to you and your other half.

Every once in a while two nudists get married in a nudist camp. Women who get married a second time traditionally wear a blue suit, (a matching jacket and skirt, not a three-piece deal with coat, pants and vest) since the white gown is a symbol if virginity and if your 12-year old is one of the ushers you obviously aren't one.

I got ordained on-line so I could perform a wedding for an old friend's daughter. We held the wedding in a glen with a creek. She wore an ankle-length flowing white dress with embroidered flowers. It was lovely, but not quite a gown; more like what the hippies and wiccans wear on summer solstice.

no such thing as a silly question about a wedding!! I don't think a gown is totally necessary if you don't want to wear one..a dress works...anything you'd be happiest in...i've been to weddings where the bride didn't walk down the aisle..she just walked out from a room behind the altar..that's really up to you..

A wedding is the woman's day. Do what you want. All the trappings that come with a traditional wedding are all man made ideas. Each culture has it's own ideas on what is right.

some people opt for getting married on a beach in beach clothes, one couple said their vows when jumping out of an aeroplane. You do what you like and wear what you like

There are no wedding police that will arrest you if you don't have a wedding dress. However, it's traditional to have one in any type of ceremony. Even in a courthouse marriage, tradition would say that the bride wears a white or light dress of some sort (think Marilyn Monroe & Joe DiMaggio).

The dress that I have chosen for our wedding next year is a spaghetti strap, long & flowing. We are getting married in a VERY hot place and a huge wedding gown isn't necessary to me.

Local courthpuse
At a park
At a friends house

I wore a dress bought at a dept store; got married in a rental building and had the reception there too. It saved money and everyone had a good time like at any other wedding. We did not feel like going in to debt over a 20 min. ceremony.

It's not absoulutely necessary but it is the bride's dress that always gets the attention at the wedding. You can wear a nice white suit though with a small hat with veil to match. It's is up to you.
