The Toyota, by far. The Chevy isn't even in the running in that comparison. And the Dodge Dakota makes the Chevy look good. Terrible reliability!

It depends on how you define "better". If better means higher reliability, smoother running, higher resale, longer life, less noise, better handling, smooth brakes and steering, better fuel mileage, a longer powertrain warranty, and having the truck that most magazines and experts including Consumer reports consider the best "compact", then the Tacoma is better. If better means having a Chevrolet badge on the front of you truck or 20 more horsepower in the base engine at the expense of noise and vibration, well, you know the answer.
Lord, I apologize to the engineers at Chevy, they just can't get it right outside of the Corvette.
