Money, the promise of money or other desireables, usuallly motivates people. It's like the carrot on the stick. The carrot keeps the horse moving because the horse wants to eat the desireable carrot. Yet if the one in question is hard core pessitimistic give the person a few free carrots before you put a carrot on a stick.

It's not up to you to motivate anyone.
It's up to the individual. I'd spend the time you are willing to invest in motivating this LOSER in a project for yourself.

be with them every step they make cheer them on take 1 day at a time starting slowly 1 day go to the pictures then another out shopping so on good luck

Go to a farm....
Surround them with animals...
Be happy around them..
Be positive around them - it's hard work I know but the pessimist will come round.....
For every thing they say that's negative turn if around to a positive. Keep at it......

you can try to do this by diverting negative conversations onto more positive topics-try not to let them dwell on talking about negative things, as they wont be able to stop once they start! Perhaps they realise they are negative and would like to be more optimistic, but just cant help it!

show them the good things in life, dont take how they they feel too lightly that could make it worse. maybe they aint pessimistic maybe you see things thru rose tinted glasses?
maybe they are depressed?
or take them to the worst place you know tell them horrific
tales of woe and make them see that they aint yoo bad off after all ahahhaha

If your in North Carolina or South Carolina take them to Carowinds. If not any other theme park will do.

Show them a glass half FULL of water and tell them it is half FULL, not half empty. Get them to see the optimistic side of things.
