Many people do not realize that It takes a lot of energy to digest food (even calories). Protein is the hardest to digest. That is why Lions sleep most of the day, digesting their meat.

When you fill your stomach, your system goes into overdrive to digest it. That's why you feel like taking a nap, especially if you are very tired already.

The best solution is to get plenty of sleep and eat smaller meals. Then you can breeze through the digestive process without feeling like you are going to collapse.

If you have a heavy meal that's bound to happen afterward.

What happen is your blood flow is be redirected to your stomach to accommodate the food and speed up digestion. It takes about anywhere from 20-45 mins for the blood flow to be normal again depend on your weight and how efficient your digestive system is.

If your diet is mostly vegetable or vegan, this doesn't happen at all. Most vegetable are easily digested and the redirection of blood flow is not necessary, hense most vegetarian / vegan feels much more at ease with their body than regular meat eaters.

Most holistic recommendation is to take a nice, relaxing walk after meal. It will help you relax and help the body digest by bring movement in your abdomen, it will also help your blood flow since your body is in action (walking).
