We haven't talked for many months and now she is calling my former porfessors and employers to spread half-truths (not enough for slander). The nature of the calls are framed as her being concerned for my mental health, but they are actually meant to embarass me and sabotage my professional relationships. I'm not sure how to stop this behavior nor am I sure if there are any legal avenues open to me. Thanks!

It's very difficult (not to mention expensive) to win slander or libel (if she's written anything) cases. However, you have leverage. Just as you have difficulty winning, she would have the expense of a defense if you did sue. I would speak to an attorney IF there is any chance that real damage will be done. Have him write her a letter outlining possible consequences of any damage done to you. Do that IF you are not culpable and in a **** fight. If you're in that sort of a fight, no one will come out "clean."

Half-Truths will not win you a slander case. And "gossip" is not a legal claim. However, if this person actually damages you professionally, if you are fired and can trace it to something they said, and you can prove that it was wrong, you have both slander and interference with contract cases.
