Lying is never a good idea... sooner or later the truth will out...

Read in your Bible about how Rahab, a harlot in Jericho who hid the Israelite spies (Jos 2:1) lied to the guards that came searching for them at her home. She told them the men had left the city by the gates and they left...leaving the city searching for them. The spies were however, hiding on her roof. She lied.

Because of her lie, the men's lives were saved... they returned to Joshua with the valuable information needed to conquer Jericho and Canaan... when Jericho did fall everyone there was killed except her and her family... and she herself eventually went on to become the great-grandmother of King David... putting her in the family tree of Jesus Christ himself.

Generally lying is not a good idea. A violation of the 8th Commandment.... however, there does seem to be the rare exception when it is permitted. To save a life? Perhaps.... for financial gain? Almost certainly..NO

lying is not ever a "good" idea. However, there are some cases when it is better to lie than to tell the truth. Like, for example, to save someone from getting their feelings hurt.

My lies:

1. No I did not see Mr. Jones berate Mrs. Smith at work = meaning: I'm staying outta this.

2. Yes, I think that colour is beautiful on you! = meaning: It's the only good thing I can find in the whole outfit.

3. Yes, little Johnny is an extremely busy child for his age - means: I think your kid has ADHD but you aren't ready to hear it and I ain't the one going to tell you.

4. What's that officer? A posted speed limit? Where is that? - save my own butt.

lying for profit is not good.

So long as telling the lie cannot result in someone getting hurt further on, I see nothing wrong with a minor fib, or stretching the truth. Telling an outright lie, where absolutely nothing about the statement is true, would be wrong the majority of the time, though.

we all tell lies, some times we tell them to ourselves, sometimes to others. and we tell them for so many reasons.

would you lie to save a life, maybe yes. my own or of someone that I love.

would you lie for financial gain, maybe yes. playing poker involves a lot of lies and deception.
