I believe lube is just short for lubricant. It is also used as a verb as in "Lube the gears and they will last a lot longer."

The only reference I've ever known for the word (lube) has to do with a vehicle or sex, depending on the conversation ,someone can pick out a different reference for the meaning. again, that depends on the words used .
