Bring an iPod.

It takes like two and a half or three hours, it's not that bad. It doesn't hurt, it's just kinda awkward and time-consuming.

You'll do great and look adorable, good luck. I love you. :)

It's not the most pleasant experience, but in the long run well worth it.

Make sure you have some type of pain medicine, such as ibuprofen with you. Take a couple as soon as you are done and take as directed on the box for the next day or two. After they get done putting on the braces your teeth will be somewhat sore. The ibuprofen will help a lot.

Figure on eating a softer diet for a couple days also. They will probably give you some dental wax to put on the braces in spots that may irritate the inside of your lips. While you have braces you will quickly learn not to go anywhere without the wax! A sore spot can pop up at any time.

Most importantly, follow your Orthodontist's instructions to the letter. They know what they are talking about and it will save you many headaches.

All the procedure is, is they glue the little buttons to your teeth. Then they put a wire though them and that begins the straightening process. It will feel like there is a vice on your teeth and will hurt for a few days. It's like an intense pressure. You won't want to chew anything so I would recommend shakes like slim fast or something. Ask the dentist for prescription pain killers if you like. (I'm a wimp with a very low pain threshold). When I had braces I remember my folks bought these inexpensive microwave pizzas. They were really tasty and when they came out of the microwave they were kind of soggy. I cut them up into little bite size pieces and didn't have to chew them hardly. Tasted really good too. Just keep in mind, the final result is well worth the trouble. You will have straight teeth the rest of your life and that will improve your appearance.

When you arrive they will remove your spacers and place bands on your teeth. If you had no spacers they will proceed to cleaning your teeth with a fine powder (pumice) that removes the top smear (slick) layer on your teeth. They will then place a lip retractor (mouth prop) to keep your mouth open and dry so that the braces can be applied. A glue is placed on the back of the braces and then the braces are placed on the teeth (the primer and glue will not taste great; like a really sour sweet tart). A special type of light (halogen, LED, plasma arch) is used to cure the glue and make it adhere to the teeth. After the braces are set and the lip retractor is taken out, they will place your wire and colored O's (if you have self-ligating braces, then no colors). Finally they will go over how to take care of your braces and what food choices to consider when in braces. The discomfort of braces peaks in about 24 hours after they are placed and remains that way for another 48-72 hours. You can use any pain reliever (Advil, Tylenol, Naproxen, etc.) you normally use for a headache (if you are not allergic to them). A prescription pain reliever is usually never indicated and I personally never offer it. Please listen to your orthodontist's advice and follow it throughout. Your treatment will usually progress quickly and efficiently if you wear your rubber bands, eat the proper foods, and brush your teeth properly. I hope this helps and I know you will enjoy your new smile.

eat something crunchy or just eat before u get them on cuz they hurt a lot at first n feel real tight. they take a brush n brush the glue on n place a bracket on ur tooth. they do this for all ur teeth. then they place the wire in n thats when it feels really tight. then the put little bands to keep the wire in place n u can pick what color u want. it hurts when u bite down but u can eat a lot of ice cream n milkshakes. then it'll stop hurting after a couple days. good luck

wat braces? dental braces?

if its dental braces, you should always remember that the procedure is not a pain. Worry about the pain on the first weeks/months of you having those braces.. i mean, you will have that difficulty of eating because your teeth is REALLY in tension aligning to each other.

dont have any dangerous contact wit your mouth when you have those braces. dont eat really hard edibles, or else, your dentist will get mad at ya.

Eat all you want now, chew bubble gum, or whatever because after the first time you get them...you diet or eating habits may be a bit more restricted depending on why you are getting them done and how long you have them on.
