It is because when your hands are hanging down for so long (such as walking) the blood builds up in them, and so they become swollen. Think about standing on your head, that's what it is, only with your hands. Your not doing anything wrong, it happens to most of us.

It sounds like some poor circulation, or fluid build up. You might want to visit your local doctor, nothing worthy of the emergency room, I wouldn't say, unless it doesn't go away. The doctor will likely try to find the cause of it.

this happens to me too- but not for 2 hours ? something must be wrong- i just came back from a walk - and washed my hands in cool water, and now it is ok again

The blood rushes to your hands.. I think from swinging them around while walking. It happens to me too!

You have some excess pressure from swinging your arms. This is not unusual and can be prevented/reduced with some arm exercises as you walk.

use weights and keep your hand elevated above your waist. This will stop the numbness and also work some different muscles!
