can i use internet explorer and opera as browsers at the same time or installing 1 will make other1 inactive?

Yes, you can run them both and use them both at the same time. I am running 3 on my pc. :)

Yes, you can use them both without worrying about compatibility problems...there aren't any.

I have IE, Firefox, and Opera. I switch back and forth between them and occasionally use them all simultaneously.

No problem, you can install Opera, Firefox, Netscape, etc... with Internet Explorer (IE), they work fine together, they play nice. I use Firefox, my wife likes IE.
