Ive had a pylonidal sinus for just over 10 years now. If its a pylonidal sinus (not sure of the spelling).......
It should look like a reasonable sized boil, you might also find that it goes and comes back. And it will hurt. A lot.
The surgical "fix" only works 60% of the time, the other 40% of the time it will get worse.
You might try a silver nitrate styptic pencil on it (it did wonders on mine - with no risk of aggravation).
In the meantime get a hot water bottle (with hot water in it, obviously), wrap a towel around it, and place it over the sinus. It wont ease the pain directly, but it will aid in ending this occurrence.
Do NOT use any form of steroid/ibuprofen cream on it. I did it once and it HURT!!!!! It felt like someone was jabbing me with a red hot poker. However, if you are in the UK put some Sudocrem on it (is Sudocrem available overseas?).
One final hint. Keep that area spotlessly clean and dry. Scrub (yes, scrub) it clean once a day with Biactol (or if you can get it on prescription - Hibiscrub). Muck and sweat makes a bad problem worse.
If you dont have a pilonidal sinus, ignore everything i have put.

I had this three years ago and it was awful. I cracked my coccyx off the corner of a wall and everything felt ok for a couple of days but then soon after i was in a lot of pain and couldn't sit, stand or lie down. Turned out i had inflammation around it which did go away in time. Try a hot water bottle on it to try and get rid of the inflamation and swelling. It comes back every now and again with me though, but only lasts for a few days and always if i've been sitting down for a long time (like in the car or on a plane). It's quite a common condition apparently. (Oh, ps - I haven't been able to feel my coccyx since, and it used to stick out)

Could be a boil coming or a pilonoidal cyst?
It's where the hiars can turn in on themselves carry on growing, become infected. Usually occurs in the cleft between the buttocks. If it is it's usually a course of antibiotics, occasionally surgical removal.

Cyst or broken coccyx will feel like this. They can excise a cyst, but nothing you can do for the tail bone. You may have bruised it and I know it's painful. Anti-inflammatories, warm baths, and try not to sit if you can. It will be OK in a few weeks.

Did you fall or were you possibly bitten by a spider or mosquito? Is there any chance you have a splinter that is becoming infected? I recommend you go back to the emergency room and tell them to find out what is wrong.

This is probably a pilonidal cyst and may require surgical removal.
