Do you have access to American TV or radio? When I want to learn a foreign language, I listen to radio or TV broadcasts. I don't struggle to understand, I just have the sound on in the background while I'm going other things. That helps with internalizing the rhythms and patterns of the language.

I also go to my public library and get recordings of songs or poems to help me with pronunciation.

The biggest challenge is learning the local slang - but once you get to a country, if you are familiar with the basics, you pick up the slang.

Remember, that in the US every region has its own style. People in NY use different slang than people in TX or CA.

Try watching the news on CNN.com, or any other news network. Why on earth you would want to learn to talk "American", is beyond me. I am American, and the regional differences in accents are dramatic. You would have to decide which regional dialect you wanted to emulate.

There is no 'American speak'. Every city (even street) and state has it's own words and ways of pronunciations.

Pick one
