I just bought a toy poodle and I am picking him up in a few weeks. The breeder said he was current on his shots, but will need his 3rd and 4th round on me. How much can i expect this to be?

you should call vets in your area. they all are a bit different. i can give you an estimate and the types of shots your dog will get. it is IMPORTANT that you dog have her puppy shots. and please make sure he is on heart worm prevention ( probably about 25 dollars for a 6 month supply).

VACCINE, COST, WHEN GIVEN
Parvo vac. $12-17 twice a year
Heart worm prev. $20-30(6 mnth supply) once a month
DHLPPV $27-30 once a year
Rabies $8-15 once a year

Bordetella aka kennel cough $13-15 twice a year
(if you plan to board him at a kennel)
Flea&Tick prevention $20-40(3mth supply) once a month

you will also have an office visit fee if your dog is seen for a sickness rather than vaccines, and there may be "emergency charges" applied if you have an emergency after hours.
on the average antibiotics run around $5-40 dollars. a poodle also need grooming. you can brush him out yourself but you may have to have his nails clipped and his hair groomed once every other month or so. neutering him would be a good idea too, it clams them down, and is healthier for them in the long run. it helps prevent testicular cancer in males and ovarian cancer in females.
it will be anywhere from $40-100 depending on the vet, if they have discounts...and some vets work out payment plans.

It varies dramatically around the country. I live in a rather rural area and our prices are:

Rabies - $9.00 - yearly
Distemper/Parvo - $16.00 - every three weeks until 16 weeks of age then yearly (this protocol does vary from vet to vet as well)
Deworming - $4.00 each time vaccinated as a puppy
Kennel Cough - $8.00 yearly - the breeder may have already given this.
Heartworm Preventative - $24 - 6 mo
Frontline - $36 - 3 month

Some vets also charge an additional office visit (and their individual pricing for vaccines may be slightly lower), but we do not.

Just call your vet and ask. They will be happy to answer your questions.

Oh and be sure you get all the info on what vaccinations he/she has had and take it with you to the vet!

depending on where you live, i paid $65.00 for our pup, when we first got her. you could ring a few vets to see how much they charge. good luck with your new puppy when you get it.
