"The Trail Position is used most often in parades, standstills, retreat, and other non-show situations. It is characterized by carrying the horn in the right hand with both arms straight down by the sides of the body. The bell of the horn will be parallel to the ground. The elbows should be straight, but not locked, and the left hand should be relaxed with the fingers together and the middle finger pointing down the seam of the pants. As always, posture, alignment, centering, and balance do not change. There is no talking or extraneous movement at the Trail Position."
