im not sure if the laptop has a virus.i read where if i downloaded,or went to a site it could have corrupted the hard drive.now i cant check like my mail w/o getting all kind of crazy pop ups.what do i do.

Most likely you have a spyware/malware infection on your computer. Go to Spybot S&D for a free download of a remover:

try restoring ur laptop to the day b4 this started to happen.
start>all programs> accessories>system tools> system restore
