Translators never translate anything correctly. There are always mistakes. So, if you're havin' an important word with a guy, you can't accept the risk.
Or maybe you wanna have a very private word with another guy, would you use a translator?
Translators may not say what they don't believe in.

This question seems very "normal" for an American.I don't have any pejorative intention, but for Americans the world is the US. If you lived in a small European country you wouldn't feel self standing if you after driving 100 miles get into a tavern to take a drink and sit at the bar and the girl or boy in the next sit ask you something you have to use a machine. Human communication includes human warmth what machines lack of.

Hmm. Perhaps you were proving the need? Or was your question a machine translation?

Have you ever heard of the phrase "lost in translation"? It came about for a good reason; translators may try their best but quite often the don't communicate the true meaning of the original. Admittedly it will take years to learn a second language well enough to understand all the nuances, but is that something to fear?

Machine translators do not work very well. In fact, they are quite bad. We have seen this many times on Yahoo! Answers.

In addition, there are other benefits to learning languages besides just being able to communicate information. You can make new friends, learn about other cultures, and develop your knowledge of how language works.

Translators often get it wrong. And can you really trust them to get the meaning across honestly.Much better if you know the language even if it is not great, then you might be able to catch the more egregious errors.
