Because after the 100 years war the English found there Lot of Widows and Orphan Children and a few males to rule upon.

And my dear the English hit upon no brilliant idea but only to march upon the well beaten path.

False - The hundred years years was never ended, it went 'underground' where the fighting continued between 2 secret societies who's covert operations and espionage continue to this day.

This happened because the soldiers got fed up with their smelly armoured trousers.
