Depends on what you mean. The Mayan calendar states December 21st 2012 as the end of the World, but I feel that this has more to do with a change in the World, rather than an end to it. The world has basically been the same for the last several thousand years (aside from technology) this will be changed in the coming 6 years.

The world could end any time. We have the means to destroy our world many times over and all it takes is one itchy finger or aggressive nation and then it could all go. I guess it really means we have the ability to form our own Armeggedon at any time. So, live for the moment, sieze the day and enjoy life for what it's worth right here right now.

In about a thousand or so years. The earth is getting closer to the sun as the sun expands. If we don't die from the planet reaching temperatures of over 150 degrees celcius very day, we'll die when the gravitational pull of the sun finally pulls us right into it. Nice, fiery death.
